The kittens have issued a non negotiable demand

I am to bring them to the den IMMEDIATELY after they finish their breakfast. They have things to do that can NOT be done in the confines of the bedroom. Things like racing around, pouncing and wrestling, climbing the cat condo and cat tree, crawling up on my lap, styling my hair, and playing with the boys. So what else could I do but obey.

(Wait! So THAT'S where my sock went!!)

I was going to do that, yesterday, when I put in the garden but they found one ONE weak point in the door barricade and shamelessly exploited it. Needless to say I was pretty surprised when I walked down the hallway and saw 3 of the 4 kittens racing towards me.

Fortunately I figured out how they escaped and reinforced the space.

They still have to go back to the bedroom for their meals because Madoc would just steal their food. And I leave them up there for a while, hoping they will take a nap. They seem to think they should play, instead of sleep, for 18 to 20 hours a day.

They dominate so much time in the beginning, normalizing a kind of chaos such that you kind of miss it when some leave the pack and the chaos subsides.

I hope her new owners keep the name. One of my cats, Freeloader, had three litters and the new owners always changed the kittens' names which made me a little sad.

They are like the velociraptors on 'Jurassic Park', constantly looking for weaknesses in the perimeter.

I just figured out another way they are escaping. I think I'll do a triple check that there is nothing harmful in the bathrooms that they can reach, and give up on worrying if/when they get out. Now that they are bigger they will be easier to find.

It did dawn on me that I will need to buy a few more scratching posts.

After an exhausting day with their antics, I decided to sequester them upstairs and had two 3-foot-high "gates" that I secured one atop the other at the stairwell to keep them upstairs while I watched some TV. I had just settled down on the sofa when the two of them appeared on my lap. So back they went upstairs and I monitored the gates where I couldn't be seen. In no time, they were climbing up the gates on one side and jumping from the top to their freedom.

I will put it up later this afternoon, just to see how quick they figure out how to conquer it. Of course I'll get video.

Cats don't like the feel of it on their paws but then again kittens may just trash it.

Fortunately the kittens are getting big enough that I won't worry about them, once they have the run of most of the house.

Dewi just crawled up next to me and fell asleep. The other kittens are somewhere, and since it's so quiet are no doubt also asleep.

And they do fall asleep in the weirdest places and in the funniest positions.
