Related: About this forumI lied. One more Snowflake post.
After a week the foster family has adopted her. Snowflake has a forever home! Out in the country with a 5 acre fenced yard, two doggie buddies, two young girls and a young married couple who love her and who she will watch over and guard. I'm glad there are no bears in this part of Texas 'cause disposing of a dead bear is difficult but I pity the poor coyote that ventures too close.
If I were to sit down and design a perfect forever home for this sweet majestic dog, this would be it.
Happily ever after!

(25,853 posts)Taking care of our furry friends is incredibly important. When I see stories of abandoned cats or dogs I get very angry. How can anyone do that?

(412 posts)I tried to start this as a new thread, but couldn't. Sometimes, the most unexpected homes arrive.
I adopted a rescue chow mix. (The Great Dog of my life was a different chow chow that came to me as an abuse/neglect case. I've loved the breed ever since.)
This new dog was great with all humans. Kids, too. Only dog I've ever known who loved to be gang-hugged. But after a few weeks, she made a couple good-faith efforts to kill our little terrier. She couldn't stay.
We knew something had to be done. I work at a large vet clinic. I got my husband to agree that I would post her picture and advert on the lobby board, with a strong advisory that she needed to be an only dog. Logic will tell you that anybody visiting a vet clinic already has other pets. But it was my only shot. If it didn't work, there weren't too many other options.
During this period, one of our clients lost their dog while they were out of the country and the dog was being pet-sat. We kept the dog so that she could visit and say goodbye when she returned. On her way in, she saw my flyer. She loved her dog, but didn't know how she was going to live alone from now on. Understanding that there was a time constraint, we arranged a home visit and play date.
Fast-forward, it was a match made in heaven. The dog, Caoimhe, never really belonged to me. We just got to keep her until her real owner came along. We gave her the best home possible - it just wasn't with us.
