I read that kittens can have catnip but shouldn't eat the leaves when they are young

So, since Arthur is just shy of 3 months, I picked some leaves, rubbed them on my fingers to release the oil and let him have a sniff. WOW. I thought he was going to lick my fingerprints off. He then proceeded to challenge Madoc to another wrestling match, but this time with lots of extra attitude.

I'd better go check on him.

The red fluffy ball on top of the kitten barn is his current target.

as policy, give catnip to kittens under 8 months, or to pregnant cats or nursing mothers, in our shelter. It's similar to drug/alcohol policy for humans.

the vet asked me if I had ever given catnip to her. The cat tended to get anxious at vet visits. (Still does and she is 6 years old now). The vet said that a small amount might relax her.

I said that I was concerned about her being too young. The vet chuckled and said that it's not like with humans and underage using. As long as the cat was weaned, healthy and well, it would not harm her.
