I'm probably panicking, again, but Arthur's appetite is way off

He'll nibble at food and that's it. I've bought and opened SO many different things, including baby food. And the big boys aren't helping because they try to eat EVERYTHING I put down for Arthur. And everything I put down gets a sniff and MAYBE a short nibble. I'm going to put the boys in the 3 season room and then put out with some wet and dry food for Arthur. I'll give it an hour, or so, and see if any of the food disappears.

This started Friday afternoon. I do see him occasionally eating some of the kibble. He's not lethargic - pretty much his usual self.

So I think I'm going to take him to the vet, tomorrow. I'm in a complete panic knot, right now, worrying.

And not just nibbling. I've got some tuna pate so I might spike it with the water/meat from the can, later

I'm also going to be feeding the boys in another room, for a while.

Not a massive amount but the accumulation of his nibbles and that tuna was a sufficient amount. So, we'll see what happens tonight.

If anything happened to Arthur, it would destroy me. I'm seriously at a breaking point when it comes to losses of people and fur babies, indoor and outdoor.

Chowing down on it. I don't know - he's never been a fussy eater. Maybe all of the excitement of Friday with more people than he's used to AND his sister being here just upset something in his system.

I saved the water from the tuna can so I might use that and some of the meat to spike some other foods for him. But he seems to be eating a good portion so I'm losing some of that toxic angst I was feeling. Hopefully this triggered his appetite.

He goes in for neutering on the 18th so I want him in prime condition and to be at a good weight.

so he can't smell as well as usual. Tuna has a stronger odor than most cat food, so maybe he could smell it and recognize it as food.

in case this needs medical attention. But there could be non medical reasons, too.

Your anxiety is understandable, but take some deep breaths and exhale slowly to keep yourself calm. Observe and take notes so you can describe his behavior to the vet.

I am hoping that he just wants a change of food. Or has a hairball that he needs to get rid of. Do you have kitty grass for the boys to nibble on? It aids in digestion.

Sending healthy vibes to Arthur and calming vibes to you.

Curious, playful, picking on his big brothers. That gives me hope. AND he did eat some tuna.

This all just plays into my anxiety condition. I never feel a 'slight concern' about anything. I go into full blown panic. Fortunately I'm seeing my APN, on Wednesday. Maybe she'll 'up' the potency on my anti anxiety meds that I take APN.

I don't have any cat grass but will put that on my immediate list. He did get a little cat nip, today.

I've always left some kibble out for the boys to snack on and he might well be nibbling on that, especially at night. He's a slender little guy, anyway, so I want him at a good weight for his surgery on the 18th.

I keep flashing back to that flea treatment I gave him. It wasn't a fancy one. I comb him several times a day and wanted to wait until he's bigger to go full blown on something along the lines of Capstar.

Thanks for your good thoughts!!

that's a good sign. And yes, he might be nibbling at night.

I am not familiar with the names of flea treatments. The only flea treatment that Ember has had are the drops on the back of the neck given to her at the vet's. They gave me some to use at home one time. The vet did tell me not to use over-the-counter flea treatments because some of them can make cats sick. But, IF that is Arthur's problem (big IF, don't panic), getting him to the vet tomorrow should take care of it.

I'm guessing that he is nibbling when you don't see him. As long as he doesn't turn down the good stuff (tuna) and his behavior is normal, those are good signs. Relax, mom.

You just never know and it is good you have a vet you can depend on. Feeding Freya is a challenge with all the older cats I have since they love kitten chow. So I have been feeding her on my desk since I spend a lot of time here every day anyway.
Glad to hear he is eating now. Good old tuna pretty much always works to get kitties back on their food.

a little too seriously. Kings have been known to be “food temperamental”. Keep your fingers crossed he does not become a picky eater.

Mine went thru that no-eating phase. Kept feeding him treats and the little bastard wouldn't eat his regular food that he was brought up on.

Rule #1 with cats - Don't panic. They like to play mind games.

If he's not exhibiting strange behavior, hiding in closets, crying, and not lethargic - give it a few days.
Make sure he's drinking .

And finding Mittens the Kitten, like I did, hasn't helped any, either.

He's curled up on my lap, acting as usual.

I put fresh water in all of the water dispensers. I'll keep an eye on him.

with my 20 year old and her hyperthyroidism and new meds, I so feel for you. I kept at her until she finally relented to eat something at 3am. For us, it was the ham baby food. I hope you find something that teases Arthur's appetite back. Perhaps it is just the bigger boy's interference, and separation will work wonders. I have my fingers crossed for you, and all good energies and vibes for luck and love sending to you and Arthur's way... {{hugs}}

I lost 3 in one month, 2 to old age, but one to unexpected diabetic crisis. I thought they were going to have to bury me with them. I'm still not over it. Every cough, whimper, or odd sound that comes out of any of them has me taking them to the vet now. So I completely understand. That's why I'm so protective of Luna. He's been my lifeline, literally.
