I picked up some kitten food, this morning. The check out clerk and I got into a conversation

She pulled out her phone and showed me a picture of her new kitten - a beautiful Calico. I mean stunningly beautiful.

I love cat people.

I'm an animal in general person too. It's funny, all my life, I've gravitated toward the animals in my household growing up and on visits with relatives, friends, etc. I engaged with my cousins, friends my age, but always hanging out with their cat(s), dogs, horses, goats whatever. I felt at ease in their presence.

I have 2 calico's, they are beautiful, yet unique in their color patterns, and personalities as well. One is mellow the other is feisty, but sweet, too.

Of course we called her Callie. Now, I was only 2 but I remember her. My dad said she used to bump into furniture so he wondered if she was actually blind. Callie was an outdoor cat and disappeared.

My very first 'boyfriend', also 2, had a dark gray cat named Penny. It's funny how those memories stay so strong.

All females.
The black cat is Winston. The calico is JuJu. The Nebelung is named Lucy.
My wife says that if they were in a Jane Austen adaptation, Winston would be Emma Thompson, JuJu would be Kate Winslet,
and Lucy would be Keira Knightley.

Two males, one female. The older male is three years old. The other two are one-year-old siblings.

Love ‘em! And as they age, they grow more affectionate.

t-shirt that read "cat lady". "best kind of lady to be",, I remarked. We chatted for a few minutes, as she had seemed a bit down. We were beside the magazines, so I showed her the cat magazines. And a colouring book called, I kid you not, "cat farts". That cracked her up. She thanked me for making her day better, and she walked away with a smile.

I have always had cats.
When I moved from Tucson to Atchison, Kansas, I brought my theater cat with me to supervise my Thespic endeavors. She was a black beauty, and thoroughly adored. Alas, diabetes took her from me within the year.
So I adopted a litter of three kittens: two black and one grey. Unfortunately, I wasn't quite fast enough in neutering the one male, and the little hillbilly knocked up both of his sisters.
All told, my theater now has nine cats of various ages, and I need to adopt the kittens out!

Cat women are fabulous, but cat guys are just the absolute best. I find them to be more intelligent, funny, and secure with themselves than non-cat men. And men who hate cats are the worst. They invariably have deep insecurities that they try to compensate for through exerting control, which is why a lot of them like dogs (not that that's dogs' fault; their evolutionary biology makes them more easily controlled). Cats don't play their silly game, which makes them furious. I told my daughter that if she ever goes on a date and finds out the guy hates cats ... RUN!

Freya is my niece's first cat. She's always had dogs and her husband has always been a dog guy. They had two, Rocco and Apollo, but poor Apollo recently died of cancer. I was so surprised when my niece said they wanted to adopt Freya.

I guess it was a kind of rough first couple of days and she didn't know if they made the right choice but her husband told her 'just give it a week' and now they both couldn't be more attached to her.

Fortunately, if it hadn't been a good fit, they had a friend who recently lost her cat and is looking for a new fur baby so Freya would have been just fine.

A lot of people don't understand that some kitties take a long time to get comfortable in a new home. I've had rescues that mostly hid for the better part of two months (and came out to play at night). They all turned out to be lovebugs who couldn't get enough human attention. I work at home and often tell my husband that we need to hire a cat nanny because I get interrupted so much by felines wanting snacks, pets, and playtime.

When I was single my "must have" qualities in a man were: cat guy, liberal, atheist, and non-smoker. I didn't want a sports-obsessed frat-boy type either. My husband ticks off every single quality.

stunningly beautiful. She has the sleek, muscular shape of an Egyptian Mau because she is half Mau. Her coat is white on the face, chest, and stomach. Her back and sides have patches of alternating black and red that look like a quilt stitched together to make a perfect symmetry. I actually drew in a breath when I saw her.

Ember has her mom's colors, but not enough white to call her calico. She is a tortoiseshell tabby. She is black and gray striped, with streaks of red here and there, a small patch of white under her chin, and a few of her black stripes have white ticking.

I remember my first cat. He was a gray and black striped tabby that I named Smokey. I was 6 years old. Smokey was an outdoor cat. He got distemper and had to be put down. I was devastated. My mother had arranged for my older brother to take me to a playground when the vet came out to put Smokey down. When I got home and found what had happened, I was angry that they did not give me a chance to say good bye to him. In my mind, doctors could fix things, so my mother had murdered Smokey. I did not talk to her for several days.

I have no artistic talent, but I made a statue of Smokey out of my gray modeling clay that was very realistic. My attachment to him had inspired me, I guess. I placed it on the buffet and my mother wanted to remove it so the clay did not ruin the finish, but my father told her to let it go because it was something I needed to do. They put waxed paper under the statue.

I still remember some of the fun things that Smokey and I did together.
