Day 8 with the new kitten

I adopted Tipper from LifeLine last Monday. He was in a cage cuddling with his litter mate so he was going to be a definite pass since I didn't want to adopt two kittens and didn't want to separate them. The volunteer talked me into taking him to the bonding room. She said he had never been in there before and it showed. He wanted nothing to do with me. I waited for the volunteer to come back to get him and when she finally came back she said someone had just adopted his litter mate. Fate had it I was to adopt him.

I brought him home and set him up in our guest bathroom. He hid in his box for 2 days before coming out to say hello. It was then that I noticed he had the sniffles and was sneezing a lot. I took him to my regular vet Friday and he gave him an antibiotic shot. He told me to wait another 7 - 10 days before introducing him to my 1 y/o cat and dog.

Now on Day 8 he's still sneezing. When I go in to play with him he mainly wants to curl up on my lap rather than play. When I leave he wants to run out the door with me. It's breaking my heart.

2. I'd wait for the sneezing to stop. Sounds like a needy little guy

who loves to cuddle. By 4months, when he’s in his hellion stage, you’ll want that quiet little cuddler back. 😁

Was he ever tested for feline diseases that are fatal?

I hate to bring this up but, depending on what care and/or testing the shelter actually gave him, he may have something more serious if he's acting that way, plus needs a lot of TLC time to bond with him while he's ill. If he feels like he's still caged and alone, he might have a hard time getting better.

How old is he?

Is he eating?

At least he's not tiny but I'm sure he's really lonely and scared. That all he wants to do is curl up in your lap is troubling.

So do you use any air fresheners like plug-ins in your house? He may be having a reaction to something even in the bathroom, a soap or cleaner?. Those air fresheners are horrible for pets, I can't stand them either, as soon as I get in a house or room that has them, I experience sinus drain that will not stop until I have been away from them for a good half hour. And I feel really dizzy the whole time.

You may want to check for chemicals under the sink that may have a smell.

Just trying to troubleshoot. Sneezing is something that indicates a number of things.

He would have been exposed at the clinic. it is very common in community settings. It is very
contagious fo kittens. Vets tend to treat it with antibiotics, even though they do nothing. It is not
usually serious, pretty much just cold symptoms, but best not to expose your older cat.

Just give him lots of attentions and TLC. He is so lonely, missing his sibling and family.
Soon he will graduate to being a full member of your family.

a cold. He's had lots of colds and skin issues over the years.

Kitties catch everything in the shelter while they're there. The stress of being separated from a sib and moving to a new home is significant - even though he'll be a million times happier once he gets settled.

Our vet recommended L-Lysine to stimulate Daniel's immune system so it could deal with viruses, etc. The stress of a non-eventful vet visit would cause him to get a cold, so we started dosing him a week before vet visits and before, during (pet sitter), and after our travels out of town. It seemed to help him.

However, research findings on l-lysine's effectiveness are now mixed > (https://www.nomnomnow.com/learn/article/what-is-l-lysine-and-how-can-it-help-your-cat).

You might call your vet to see what they recommend - more time, a dietary supplement of some sort, or bringing him back in.

I hope Tipper feels better soon!
