My wife arranged for us to visit the open day at a local cat rescue centre

I knew she had a hidden agenda because so did I. We saw a very pretty little girl called Mia, who despite being only 12 months old had had 2 litters of kittens. We fell in love with her, but because the centre won't rehome adult females to a home where there's already an adult female there was nothing to be done.

In the next block were 4 of her kittens - all gorgeous. One called Russo took a particular shine to me. So, of course... he came to live with us today. He's lovely. Very playful, loves snuggles and very handsome. And despite being just 12 weeks old he has enormous feet. I am smitten.

and admit that one of my females--a calico stray who raised a litter of kittens in my home, who has never liked any other cat, who overgrooms and who is always stressed out might be an example of the reason why this is policy.

And our little story has a happy ending. By the time we picked up Russo this morning, his mum had already got a new home. They don't seem to have problems rehoming cats.

I have had cats and fostered for many years. This is the first time I’ve heard of the belief that adult female cats can’t be rehomed successfully where there is another female cat. Not sure that that’s generally true. But in any case, you have a very handsome new family member and it looks as though he’s already thrilled!

They told them she was about 9 months old. Beautiful calico, very friendly. She started gaining weight after a couple weeks at home - she was “with kittens” already. She had 4 kittens, 2 died (common when a very young cat has kittens) and they kept the 2 survivors, both boys.
Your new fur baby is gorgeous. Congratulations!

I didn't bother reading your post, just scrolled down to the kitty pic. I think everybody knew where this was going to go just from your subject line.

I have an upstairs tribe and a downstairs tribe created by exactly such carelessness.

I can never say no, and then just like you, we wind up with another beautiful cat.
