Related: About this forumMy dog died.
She was the (very) older of the two. Really smart and sweet. I'm so tired of feeling sad.
Both dogs appeared to be grieving the other losses in our family, but she stopped eating. I took her into the vet. I have no idea what my finances are going to look like, so I couldn't hospitalize her. We tried other treatment over the last week, but she was getting progressively worse.

(4,345 posts)it's their time to go. At that time our job is to support them. It sounds like you did.
IMO losing an animal is more traumatic than losing a human.
Sorry for your loss.

(3,292 posts)... few years ago, my ex-wife got assigned to work in NYC for a week, her 13 year old Shih Tzu, Max, had just had 6 inches of intestine removed due to cancer and she asked me to take care of him. She stated he would not eat and was weak... I make homemade bread in, "The Bread Machine/Welbilt", and got him to eat/scarf up the crusts from my sandwiches. After a day and a half or so he was jumping around playing outside with my own Shih Tzu, Peanut. And then he started eating Peanut's dog food, too!
Of course when I messaged my ex that Max started playing around for a minute or two when outside, she said, "you better not be lying to me"!
He lived another 6 months.
I share this so that if you are in this situation again, something to try.
Regards.

(89,308 posts)Even when theyre old and sick and in serious undeniable decline. Its STILL hard as hell to let them go. Been there. Im still struggling with it, and still missing them deeply and dearly as I know you are right now.
I think we all not only understand that, but have had to walk in those shoes, also. Its so hard to say goodbye. Even as you want their pain and suffering to end. So sad that it means they end, also.

merged with the universe. It was a thought I found somewhat comforting. In our family, we call it liberating the spirit.
One of our vets once said to me that we bring our animals into our lives, knowing that we will outlive them, but we choose to do so anyway because our lives are so much richer for the being in it.
It sounds as if your beloved dog was ready to move on and you did the loving thing by listening to her. Its always hard, even when it right.

(64,030 posts)a blanket on the grass and pine straw. It was windy, overcast, the trees were making music with their leaves, the birds were busy. It gave her an opportunity to pee/poop outside without being concerned about making a mess indoors. I had to bring her in when Nicole got too close.
Several nights ago she woke me up coming into my room to get on my bed. I had to lift her. She's not a cuddler, but I cuddled her anyway. She hadn't step in my bed in several months.
