Update on trapped kitty / FIV testing info

Kitty is living in my spare bedroom in a large dog crate. He is freaked out by everything, including just turning the light on. He has never been in a house before that I know of.

The FIV testing is contentious, with false positives on the IDEXX SNAP test reported anywhere from 7-20%, yet the rescue & vet insist it is 100% accurate & vet has adamantly resused to confirm the positive SNAP, as recommended medically, with a fluorescent antibody test. She said they "never do these." Yes, she refused to test him, even with me offering to pay for it because "he absolutely is FIV positive."

This from a vet whose office called me to report FIV positive & asked whether they should euthanize!

They also asked if I wanted them go cut the top of one ear off so other rescuers would know he has been neutered & wouldn't bother trying to trap him.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!

I asked if they don't follow the standard protocol of tattooing ear or stomach. She said "no. We don't have that equipment here."

This is a brilliant vet, highly respected in the community!

The rescue will pick him up Tuesday to place him into a long-term foster home. I will not release him to them without absolute assurance that if they deem him not adoptable, they will return him to me & he can live in my spare bedroom, away from my senior kitty, with lots of toys, good food, & love.

Ty all for your support, caring, & love.

Ps- If you've even wondered why life expectancy for humans is so low in red hellhole states, extrapolate this info to human medicine. It is absolutely the same in human medicine here.

Our very didn't suggest killing him. We cannot get another cat, though.

I love this little guy!

He appeared as a kitten right after we bought this house. It's taken him four years to alow me to pet him.

FIV cats can live long, happy lives, and although FIV is transmissible, it's not easily transmissible. Cats usually get it from fighting with each other, not from sharing air or food bowls.

Lucky cat to have landed with you!

energies for best possible outcome. I hope that you, and the rescue, csn find another vet. I don't think that I would want to go near this one.

Pretty much all medical providers, human docs & vets alike, are this way here.

I will update as things progress, but I doubt rescue will bother to let me know if/when he is adopted.

Most people here do not go to docs or take animals to the vet for these reasons. Same with dentists. Horrid "care" here.

are wrapped with a sheet to keep kitty litter from getting everywhere. Spread the sheet out first, put the cage on top keeping the sheet a bit back from the gate and pull the sheet up. I use butterfly clips to attach sheet to cage, but large safety pins or clothes pins will work.

When the cage is wrapped, it'd be safe to put the cage on a card table in a main room so kitty gets more exposure to you.....

That extra bedroom is my computer / writing & art room.

On edit, we do have a large, heavy tarp under cage to protect hardwood floor.

I do not have it in me to ignore an animal in need Mother Nature sends me for help.

I can't even imagine how that works!
