Molly (Good Golly!) was twice returned to the rescue and was scheduled to be put down when a
friend emailed this photo to my school district’s email. A guidance counselor and SpeechLanguage pathologist worked with the rescue and made sure I opened their email. This picture went straight to my heart and soul.

We rescued one another 9 years ago this May and are becoming old ladies together, living retired, happily ever after.

We've adopted a few and sometimes wished we hadn't. But in the end they stole our hearts.

11. She's an excitable old lady

but can’t maintain hyper drive for too long. More curious than hyper for the most part. One of her many middle names is Snuffleupagus. Our yard is an acre clearing on 10 acres of steep wooded mountainside with a creek on the lower boundary, so there’s always some scent trail to investigate. She’s about 50 pounds now, give or take, and incredibly strong, protective, and loving.

She’s crazy about my daughter who lives the next county. Molly will start barking and dancing/bouncing about 5 minutes before daughter arrives, and covers daughter with kisses as soon as she gets out of her car. They are “sisters” insists dear daughter.

My life is more better since we rescued one another.

9. Thank you everyone

She’s rough and tough from living on the street, but she’s never chewed a shoe. She will destroy any toy in minutes, though. If it has a squeaker, it is immediately removed and destroyed. Any stuffing is pulled our next. Who knew so much stuffing could fit in those toys?! Then she shreds what remains. 🤦🏽?♀️

It didn’t take long to figure out that she’s just as happy to shred packing boxes and paper when we give them to her. She just shreds and tosses the shredding aside, never tries to eat them. Now if I could get her to deposit the remains in the recycling, that would be nice.

She must give any package that arrives a thorough sniffing before it’s opened, then waits patiently to see if she will get the box. Chewy delivers every third month and she meets Kevin the delivery man before he can even get out of the truck!

We get plenty of exercise, fresh air and sunshine on our regular patrols around the yard. I had a total right knee replacement in August and my surgeon has just cleared me to resume all activities, no restrictions. When we can get a few sunny days to dry the trails, we’ll be hiking up the mountain and back soon. Haven’t been able to do that since last May after 3 pretty serious falls, so my husband and our daughter will hike a ways with her occasionally, but not to the top. Soon, baby girl, soon.

12. I really don't know why anyone would get a dog any other way, than rescue!

Our guy was such a sweet, eager-to-please soul, adopted days before his time was up.
I miss him tragically.

My husband is also a 70s era vet. As an operating room tech at Ft. Rucker, he “kept Alabama free” from what the locals referred to as “the Commies.”

I’m sorry about the loss of your dog, my friend. Maybe you can rescue another?
It took my husband 20 years after our JoJo died before he was ready to accept another dog. Molly was going to be a foster, but he fell in love with her before we even got her home. Took her to the vet the next day to get her tag.

13. What a pretty little girl.

Who could possibly give her up? Returned to the rescue twice?

My little Sugar, was born at the rescue. A family took her in when she was just a puppy, Only 3 pounds. But they brought her back. I think they were nuts to bring her back. I found her at the pound when she was 18 months old and fell in love with her.

She has since grown into a 50 pound whippet beagle cross. Very well behaved, loves to ride in the car and is very dignified and quiet, though she gets noisy when chasing rabbits or hears strange noises.

How anyone could have given her up when they had her since she was a puppy, I'll never know.

15. I don't get it either, Farmer-Rick.

I don’t know about the first return, but the second family had two primary school age boys who couldn’t handle her on a leash. She’s no Lassie, that’s for true. She’s so strong and hadn’t had much beyond potty training. I guess leash training, or any training wasn’t on that family’s agenda. Their loss, my blessing, as I see it.
