Related: About this forumI'm changing up the feeding routine and brainstorming ways to improve the porch.
I still have the food bowls outside on the deck but go through the enclosed porch to get to them. I get SWARMED as soon as I open the door that is between the sun room and the porch. Especially now that a few of the adults are 'inside'.
So starting this afternoon, meals will be brought out via the side garage door. It's much easier to navigate the bumble of fur babies.
I'm also going to put a couple of straw beds on the porch. I've got some ideal cardboard boxes. At least one will be more like a shelter than a bed, just to see which gets more use. I think cutting a hole in the side of a box and flipping the flaps shut could make for a snug sleeping place. It would just take a couple because they will cuddle together and simple to open the flaps to add to or change out the straw.
These babies do keep my brain active.

(100,972 posts)Makes them feel more secure and they can defend a doorway situation much more easily which gives them a sense of security.
I like the boxes idea a lot. On the porch with stuffings they will be out of the weather and not suffer the worst of the cold and snow situations. You might just end up feeding them on the porch too?
Not sure how your place is configured but getting ready for the least amount of work when it matters is a really good idea.
Our weather has become quite pleasant after a week of true winter. When it comes, though...
