We are at the emergency vet. She's been vomiting after she eats and stopped eating and drinking 24 hours ago. I can tell she's dehydrated and she's been making sad meows. Her belly hurts and she's been losing weight. She's 12. I hope it's something simple. They just took her back. I love her so much and am scared.

(5,409 posts)She getting blood drawn now. Going to check her thyroid and her kidney function. It's likely one of those or pancreatitis or cancer. She'll be getting some fluids, steroids, and anti nausea meds so at least she'll be feeling a little better here soon.

(2,563 posts)Twelve is not old for a cat and I doubt that she has geriatric issues.

(47,940 posts)That sounds like it could be a blockage. Im no vet, of course. I hope it can be easily fixed.

(2,323 posts)Hoping its just something that is easily treated and resolved.
My kitty, Sammy had Pancreatitis and she was successfully treated. Sounds like the same symptoms she had. Keep us posted. Love her sweet picture.

It turned out to be hyperthyroidism and dehydration, but pancreatitis was one of the possibilities the vet and I discussed. Im so relieved its something treatable and something Ive dealt with before, and that well have more time together.

(2,323 posts)I was hoping that it was something that was very treatable. I had a cat that was hyperthyroid, so I'm familiar with the treatment options.
Pooper will now be the spoiled Diva she has always aspired to be.

(114,667 posts)Since this started so suddenly, it's the most likely cause. A little less likely is a twisted loop of intestine. Both are treatable by surgery, but I won't sugar coat it, she's a very sick kitty.
You got her to the e-vet in a timely manner, so she's in good hands. She'll get some fluids, they might doXrays or ultrasound (depending on what gear they've got), and they'll let you know what it is and how much your credit card will get dinged for the surgery, if my guesses are correct.
Whatever is going on, I hope she recovers and you get more good time together.
