While it had referred to an unmarried woman of any age, it is considered patronizing and its official use by governmental agencies ceased in the early 70s.

An indispensable source is the podcast, Americans In Germany Drinking Whiskey. It features two young Americans who emigrated to Germany and present a weekly discussion of what it’s like. Part of the charm is no discernible relationship between Germany and whiskey. But you can submit questions about life in Germany and get answers between whiskey reviews.
