Well, my 15 year old son just headed off to protest!

I have Lupus, and I’ve been having a tough time of it lately, with the heat and photsensitivity. Then I got shingles which got infected (apparently common with chemo treatments) so I had to send him with my sister and her husband. I’m so proud of him, but also scared to death that I won’t be with him should anything go wrong. They were going to head out to Philly, but went to a smaller location here in NJ. My son is 6 foot 1. He’s adopted, and while we are waiting for his DNA results (because he’s curious), he definitely doesn’t look white. I don’t think I’m being irrational to think that a kid who looks like a black man may be in danger in Philadelphia. I never discouraged him, but went through everything that MIGHT protect him from racist riot police. I just wish I could be beside him. I would gladly give my life for his, but I think my sister would, too. But she’s a hothead at times, and doesn’t understand the fine line that other ethnicities have to walk.
Anyway, just wanted to blurt this all out I guess. He is an amazing kid and he’s the kind of person who can change the world. All I could do was help him make a sign and freeze water bottles last night! Wishing him change, luck, and peace today.
Thanks for letting me babble. I had tears watching them pull away...

It sounds like you were able to help by getting him ready. I'm about to start getting ready for my march in downtown Los Angeles.....

Don't forget that Phila is very blue with few RW nut jobs. There are tons of cops who have a Dem mayor too. I lived in Center City and at that time 40% of the population was not white so your son will fit right in. Relax and look forward to hearing all about it tonight when he comes home.

All of my doctors (specialists) are in Philly) and I have come to really love it there. I’m from a very tiny town, so the traffic and horns honking used to make me nervous, but I have grown accustomed.

That is exactly what Special Forces recruit's are told.
Why do I know this? It ain't on the internet. Google? No. You have to actually witness it or be told first hand.

Your 15 year old son's more courageous than the kind it takes to pull a trigger. He has the kind that says. "We need to stop pulling triggers and start pulling together to rescue our democratic, republic government." He is actually the one, along with many others who are fighting for freedom and protecting our country.

Sorry to be so long winded. I do get very passionate about this.

Yes! I am very proud of him. This will be his third protest, and he’s still angry with himself for not being in the women’s march, although he did see it. He went on a trip to the inauguration which was paid for before the actual election, and was still in DC to watch the women’s march. I love it when someone tries to say that the media didn’t show the crowd when it was “full.” He rolls his eyes the way only a teen can do and says, “I was there. The section before us was empty, so we moved up. Then it happened again. We kept moving up until we were practically in the VIP section and, trust me, we weren’t VIPs.” Most of the time, the person tries again, and he asks, “Were you there?” Of course, they were not. “Believe what you want, but I was there. It was pretty empty. Now the WOMEN’s MARCH, THAT was something! People for MILES!”
So far, I haven’t seen a head explode, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen smoke!

I sounds like you're raising a fine young man. How did things go at the protest? I'm sorry to read about your health problems. This extreme heat makes even minor ailments worse.
