I've had 2 drivers run a red light/stop sign in a week

This is really big news to me. Never had this happen before in my life. I drive very few miles in a year. Unbelievably few.

Is this a trend, a new normal?

I had a green light, the guy just blew threw his red light, he braked, I braked, somehow we missed one another.

At a three way 'T' section, a driver just drove right through the stop sign. Never slowed, looked right or left, just drove like it wasn't there. I braked, somehow.

How many people just ignore traffic signals in small towns?

6. Is this trend a new norm? Nope--not exactly. It's been happening for heaven knows how long.

I still remember the time that a now ex-resident/neighbor in my community/building, who lived two doors down the hall from me, was in a grisly car crash right near where we both lived. The woman, who was driving a much older model of a subaru, without any of the safety features (such as air-bags, and a regular old seatbelt without a harness), was T-Boned (inotherwords, hit broadside) by another driver, who totally blew right through the STOP sign at a nearby intersection. Not only was the woman's car totally demolished, but she had to be cut out of it with the Jaws of Life. Moreover, not only was her shoulder ripped wide open in the crash, but she had a bad concussion, for which she was hospitalized for almost a month, due to her head having been thrown against the steering wheel of her car and her losing consciousness, and having to be rushed to the hospital.

I saw her afew years ago in a Whole Foods Market, in the next city over from where I presently live. Sadly, she never completely recovered from the accident, and she's still in a great deal of pain a lot of the time. She had put her condo on the market shortly after the accident, eventually sold her house, and left. Here's hoping that she is doing better.

Shortly after that grisly car crash, in which my neighbor was seriously injured, the city put a 4-way STOP sign in that particular intersection.
