We often hear that the First Amendment has never been stronger. I'd like to tell you a story about why that's not true.

It starts with a guy in East Cleveland who supported the "wrong" mayoral candidate. So law enforcement destroyed his livelihood & prosecuted him for his words.

I'm proud to represent William as he fights to hold his city government accountable for retaliating against him for his political advocacy.

It's worth some words about the bigger problem his case represents: it has become maddeningly difficult to enforce the First Amendment.

The First Amendment protects everyone’s right to criticize government officials.

It is unconstitutional for East Cleveland to punish William Fambrough for supporting a challenger to the mayor.

A local election here in my little rural upstate NY town recently for a town supervisor election. The incumbent had close ties to the local police. The Dem candidate running against him had her signs removed from all state and town roads, she was harassed, fined and locked out of town meetings. The incumbent conservatives signs were never touched. Of course she lost the election, shameful, you'd think I was talking about Guatamala or something
