About the LBGT Civil Rights and Activism Group

Some have asked what's the difference between the LBGT Group and the LBGT Civil Rights and Activism Group. Probably not much in the big scheme of things but here is the Statement of purpose for each:

The Statement of Purpose of the LBGT Group

A group for LGBT DUers and allies. All topics of interest to the LGBT community are welcome.

The Statement of Purpose of the LBGT Civil Rights and Activism Group

A discussion area of fierce advocacy for LGBT people and their allies. Our concerns regard issues of socio-economic justice and equality for LGBT people.

The LBGT Forum has far more subscribers, far more posts and far more hosts and obviously are very successful in creating dialogue for some. If you like a crowd, it's a good place to go. While I did not know the difference between the two until recently, I think the words like 'fierce,' 'justice,' 'advocacy,' and 'equality' are noteworthy in distinguishing the two. I did not write the SOP but fully endorse it.

This forum was ignored for so long they had no hosts so I requested to be one. There are serious and practical differences between the experiences in our communities (rural and urban, red states and blue states, men and women, assimilates and freaks, young and old, gay allies and gays, advocates and apologists). Sometimes those differences can create animosity or misunderstandings within our community. It's my hope that those issues and differences are brought up rather than ignored and as a strong advocate for free speech, I'll defend your right to offend me and others with the hope the dialogue furthers discussion. All are welcome.

Better yet, check out how many are actually blocked in each group. Respecting differences makes us .... Well queer...in the BEST sense of the word! This group seeks to include a WIDE chorus of voices.

This group honors the tradition and anthem of our proud heritage: 'We're Here, We're Queer, Get Used to It.' It is a safe haven for all who seek to understand and embrace all that celebrate what makes us different without diminishing our common humanity.
