25 Colorado medical-marijuana dispensaries close after warning

All 25 of the medical-marijuana stores in Colorado that received warning letters for being within 1,000 feet of schools have heeded the threat from the U.S. Attorney's Office and closed.

The letters were sent out on March 23 and gave the businesses 45 days to close down before facing potential civil and criminal action.

Federal criminal law supports the action, which provides increased criminal penalities for those selling drugs within 1,000 feet of schools.

The U.S. Attorney's Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration checked each facility and confirmed Tuesday that all 25 locations have closed.

Two things about this article... One, this whole bullshit about dispensaries being too close to schools is... Well... Bullshit. I've been to a number of dispensaries now and they do not let just anyone walk in. If kids tried to enter, they would be told to leave. This is no different then kids buying alchohol or walking into a drug store and buy drugs without a perscription. A bullshit excuse to limit dispensaries.

Second... Damn this article was hard to find. Nothing on the news last night about it and the on-line article was burried, I found it only by chance. I do not like that news like this gets burried.

with this rule.

it's the same with liquor stores. Actually is 500 ft. for liquor stores.

There's plenty of dispensaries 22 in my zip code.

Amendment signed in 2010.

It is not an unreasonable requirement. Some of these folks have already found new locations.

Illegal trafficking and abuse of prescription drugs is way out of control ... maybe Obama and Holder ought to work on getting any of those that are 1000 feet from a school shut down.

Face it, this is part of the Obama administration's move to the right on marijuana. It won't help his reelection efforts here in Colorado.

I don't know what to think.

I'm in favor of a respectable medical marijuana industry ... I'm not sure corner sign wavers help the image of medical marijuana providers.

However, I'm not sure making that kind of advertising against the law is the best route to go.

Doesn't quite scream "medicine"
You don't see Walgreens running specials on Xanax and Valium.
