A strong argument can be made that the 1994 AWB was the high water mark of the anti-gun crowd. Lurks Often Feb 2013 #2

The Pro-gun rights side seems to be winning the majority of court cases and in the various states legislatures since 1994.

However, my opinion is that most people also can't define "assault weapon".

What an assault weapons ban tells me that if I have a semi-automatic rife fed from a detachable magazine, adding a protruding pistol grip, telescoping buttstock, or barrel shroud (heat shield) increases the lethality to unacceptable levels.

But, if I take the pistol grip or whatever off, it is now at an acceptable level of lethality.

But with the language that I keep seeing I don't know if even that first rifle would be excluded in the new bills. That part about a off hand grip that partially or fully encircles the barrel makes me nervous.

So many gun ban attempts have been scuttled this week. This is all entirely predictable. The urge to push reactionary legislation fades as logic and reason begin assert themselves over time.
