Marine with concealed carry permit stops man from beating woman

A Wisconsin Marine Corps veteran used a concealed weapon to stop a man on the street from nearly kicking his ex-girlfriend to death on Tuesday.

Charlie Blackmore was driving home from work at 4:00 am when he spotted the woman on the ground being kicked in the head and stomach by her much larger ex-boyfriend.

The Marine veteran said he jumped out of his car and ran over to shake off the suspect

‘I said “stop” and he starts coming towards me and that’s when I drew on him. He started getting closer and I said “get down on the ground,”’ Blackmore told Fox 6 in Milwaukee, noting that Wisconsin’s concealed carry law allowed him to do so.

...and if the perp had a gun, he might have been killed himself. BEing armed, he nullified that threat and may have saved the woman's life.

Victim alive and perp is down. Seems like a win-win to normal people.

The situation ended without further violence because the assailant wasn't willing to stake his life on the Marine not firing. Would that have been the case without the firearm? I doubt it.

The officers then asked Blackmore to show his concealed carry permit, which the primarily Republican state allows.

2012 election results: Wisconsin - Obama 53 Romney 46.
Democrats have won the seven {pres} elections since 1988, although the 2000 and 2004 races were extremely close. The 2008 election was not as close, as Barack Obama won by 56% to 42% over John McCain.
Wisconsin: ................. Democrats - 31%
Democratic leaning independents - 17%
Republican leaning independents - 13%
............................... Republicans - 26%

Oh, I suppose they're talking about the current 'redistricted' R legislature.
But why?

blackmore acknowledges that some gun owners are not crazy gunnuts: ‘We do good things. Not all of us are bad or crazy gun nuts. There are good people,’ the Marine veteran told Fox 6.

As steve martin might've said - wild & kerrrrr-AY-zee gunnutz!

The West Allis police chief told the news network that these types of situations are case by case judgement calls for gun owners.

Yeah, case by case judgements, sometimes whether the ccw holder pisses his pants when he considers actually having to use his pistol in a real life shooting situation involving real people and real consequences, rather than a picture target of mayor bloomburg. Suddenly his past machismo isn't so much fun anymore.
I bet maybe 9 other ccw permit holders drove right past (if it were a busy street).
How many mothers with ccw permits with a car full of kids would've stopped?

But in this case, bravo to blackmore, done did good, deserves a commendation of some sort.

He {police chief} said that while the police department does not encourage others to do the same, he appreciates citizens looking out for each other when they do it legally and are willing to accept the consequences.

> he had removed the .38-caliber, two-shot Derringer pistol from a holster

I can understand owning a Derringer from the novelty point of view, but why would anyone ever carry it?
They normally contain only two rounds. They are not drop safe. They hurt to shoot. They are not accurate to shoot.

I sometimes carry a Ruger LCP .380.
(6 rounds)
Last defensive shoot I heard of with an LCP, 2 BG's took 3 shots each and walked away.

It's not reliably accurate from more than 15 feet, has a little "nub" on the front of the slide that I THINK is supposed to be a front sight, a 10 lb trigger press and what seems to me like 12" of trigger reset, and is probably no more fun to shoot than a derringer.

This is why it is usually a BUG.

That said, I can reach in a pocket and get a firing grip without Brandishing if needed, it's very maneuverable close in (compared to my G19 EDC), in a different spot than my EDC in case I end up on the ground, and when it's 90 degrees out I don't have to conceal a "brick" on my hip. It's less than Ideal, but it has a place.

Or maybe it's all the guy could afford?

In any case... it did the job, and very well.
