(253 posts)Get real and stop acting like an NRA board member.

(3,731 posts)1. Illegal in most states
2. A really stupid thing to say.
3. Acting like an NRA board member? Is that the best you can do?
How is pointing out a huge fallacy acting like an NRA board member?

(11,181 posts)Joe doesn't always say the smartest things but I think we all know what he really meant. I love Joe and if I really wanted to stop someone from coming into my house, I might well take his advice.
BTW, because something is legal or illegal, doesn't make it right or wrong or dumb or smart.
I've seen guys here on DU who claim it's smart to carry a gun around, just in case. Now, that may be legal, but it sure as hell isn't smart.

(18,318 posts)He gave bad advice on a subject he claims to have credibility with. Actually, most folks with guns know how stupid his advice is. And they aren't on the NRA's "board." Or on your's, either.

(6,057 posts)There will never be forced confiscation in this country, as in, going door to door and forcefully disarming the population, any one who thinks like that, or wishes for it, are, in my opinion, paranoid kooks.
rdharma
(6,057 posts)and I agree with him.
Now, I answered your question, how about answering mine?

Do you agree with his statement about shooting through the door?
People in New Orleans were having a mass hallucination when police officers took their legally owned weapons with the threat of arrest if they didn't willingly surrender them?

(7,720 posts)on these threads written by gun grabbers who wish to confiscate all privately owned firearms. The only person I have ever heard mentioning special forces is Joe Biden.

(7,720 posts)Vice-president Biden did. And you replying to my initial post, and the one after that, makes YOU the person who is stuck on the "Special Forces".

(7,720 posts)anyone suggest that Navy SEALS or Army Green Berets do door to door confiscating guns. Hell, I haven't seen it mentioned on these threads until I saw the video with Biden mentioning it.
Tommy_Carcetti
(44,499 posts)You don't have to take it word for word.
He was making a funny, based on the whole "government is going to take my guns!" crowd, which is a very real state of mind for way too many people out there.
Jeez, trying to explain this to you reminds me of this:
Jenoch
(7,720 posts)for making assumptions, but I don't want it to go over your head. Of course I know why Vice-president Biden said what he said. However, I have not heard anyone else make such a reference.
Tommy_Carcetti
(44,499 posts).....special forces will go around confiscating guns?
The VP was playing a caricature of very real paranoid gun conspiracy theorists out there.
Thankfully, the Internet is the nut's playground, so a simple Google search can actually show the Vice President could be taken literally at his word:
http://zachjonesishome.wordpress.com/2013/03/04/what-will-happen-if-obama-orders-the-u-s-military-to-confiscate-guns-in-america/
http://www.teaparty.org/obama-wont-confiscate-guns-are-you-blind-22548/
http://www.infowars.com/obama-would-call-on-military-to-disarm-americans-during-national-emergency/
Now, if you'll excuse me, I need a shower.
Jenoch
(7,720 posts)preoccupied with this? You have obviously put a bit of time and effort into attempting to tell me why I am wrong about wgat I have, or more precisely, have not read or heard. I made an observation about a comment Vice-president made, that is all.
Tommy_Carcetti
(44,499 posts)As if he was being reckless about saying it.
When in fact there are many, many people out there who literally believe that exact thing, that the Government is going to send in the military to take away your guns.
Jenoch
(7,720 posts)I made a simple comment that I had not heard anyone mention special forces going door to door confiscating guns. You are reading way too much into it. Read only the words I post. I am responsible for those words. The assumptions you make are on you.
Tommy_Carcetti
(44,499 posts)If it wasn't so surprising to you, then why bring it up?
Given that it came from someone whose used the words "gun grabber," alert flags came up for me.
Jenoch
(7,720 posts)Again, you are making assumptions a d reading waaaay too much into a fairly innocuous comment I made concerni g a remark made by Vice-president Biden. You're really worked up over this, aren't you? (I made that assumption based solely on the number of times you keep bringing this up. Give it a rest.)
Tommy_Carcetti
(44,499 posts)Again, you had to be bothered enough by the Vice President's comment to bring it up and insinuate he was making stuff up. Why you got so bothered, that I can't say.
Jenoch
(7,720 posts)I 'insinuated' nothing. You have assumed a lot. I never insinuated, implied, or wrote that Vice-president Biden made anything up. I assume he had a source for his comment. I just don't know what it was, thus the comment I initially made. The only nerve you touched is the never-ending replies about a fairly unimportant observation I made about Vice-president Biden's comments. Every time you keep this gping you are making yourself look more and more foolish. I was not accusing, insinuating, or otherwise disparaging the vice-president in any way.
Tommy_Carcetti
(44,499 posts)The Vice President gently mocks paranoid gun enthusiasts (in my opinion, justifiably) by alluding to theories some of them have actually espoused.
You suddenly pop up out the blue, for no apparent reason, and say to the effect, "He said what? I've never heard anyone else ever said that! Never!"
Now, if I were to (your favorite word coming up) assume, I might think you--as an apparent gun enthusiast--are rather ashamed by the company that you keep with some of your brethren gun enthusiasts who wax paranoid about conspiracies that the US government is coming to take your guns away, and sheepishly wish to minimize any association you may have with such folks by claiming that those people may in fact only exist in the Vice President's head. (While in reality, they actually do exist.)
But you choosing to play coy, I don't know why you actually said what you said. Who knows, maybe you just like to randomly interject with statements on internet message boards without making any real points. It could happen, I guess.
As for me looking "foolish," you're the one throwing around the word "gun grabber." That alone makes me wonder if the Vice President's comments didn't hit you a little too close to home.
Jenoch
(7,720 posts)I simply wrote that I had not heard anyone mention special forces in the context of gun confiscation by the federal government. After that, what you came up with, is, as I said before, all on you. I'm getting tired of your pestering.
Be well.
Tommy_Carcetti
(44,499 posts)I'm having lunch soon.
Why am I saying these random things that no one cares about on an internet message board?
Beats me.

(46,192 posts)meanwhile, the more conservative, mostly white gun owning populace of our country is somehow going to protect the civil rights of the non-white.
yeah, i'll take the bet against that.

(813 posts)if someone had said the Supreme Court is going to step in and steal the presidential election for a barely literate cokehead from Texas, they'd have been called "paranoid nuts" too.
Or that three minivans full of Saudi Arabians would set in motion events leading to two wars costing 330,000 lives and nearly 4 trilllion dollars. They'd have been "paranoid nuts".
And the "can't happen here" beat goes on.

(11,996 posts)You are calling "the vice-president and his ilk" liars, which obviously means you are also referring to our President, and the Democrats in congress etc. that are all for gun control liars and loonies, right?
Who exactly is this "we" that will not let these "liar Democrat loonies" get away with anything?
Hmmm...
You do realize you are on DU, right, not FR or CC?

(17,493 posts)However they will only be in office for another four years.
It's hard to predict who will be in office in ten or twenty years and how they might misuse a national registration system for firearms.
Of course by that time the government will have a good list of everyone who owns firearms without requiring registration. Because of our War on Terror our rights to privacy have been eroded considerably.
