Woman In Starbucks Drops Purse With Forgotten Gun, Shoots Friend In The Leg: St. Pete Police

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/13/gun-in-purse-starbucks_n_3268652.html

A Florida woman accidentally shot her friend in the leg while waiting in line at a Starbucks on Saturday.

Police say Pamela Beck and Amie Peterson were getting coffee at the Tyrone Square Mall in St. Petersburg when Beck moved to set her bags down in order to pay for her drink.

Her purse "hit the ground hard," St. Petersburg Police spokesman Mike Puetz told The Huffington Post, and a fully loaded .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun that was in the bottom of the handbag fired, striking Peterson above the knee.

Beck told investigators that her father had given her the gun about a year ago, and she hadn't intended to bring it out in public. "She had forgotten about it," Puetz said.

derringers. If you are going to have a .38, it should be a modern revolver with a transfer bar.

Those are the only .25s I can think of would flunk a drop test.

I'm pretty sure a Baby Browning wouldn't pass a drop test. I have one, and I would never carry it with a round in the chamber.

something in the purse may have gotten into the trigger guard and "pulled" the trigger upon impact with the floor.

9. MY dgu

This does cancel out 100 verbal defensive gun uses (dgu), you know.
So far nationwide this year it's 208,381 dgus vs 3,933,012 illicit gun uses, for a net negative of 3,724,631 ILLGU's.
I had a dgu myself last year; I was behind a guy overtaking him in broad daylight in a shopping center parking lot, fastwalking in my usual style & he musta thought I was creeping up behind him even tho I was like 20 ft away so he turned & started swinging his bag at me & coming closer.
I yelled out 'stay away or I'll get my gun' (white lie, I don't own one) & he backed off & started walking the other way from which we'd both come (odd).
So now I don't know who to report my dgu to, Kleck? Lott? nra? and since I don't own a gun I'm thinking of giving the dgu to my neighbor who owns a hunt rifle - gonna say I meant 'stay away or I'll get my neighbor's rifle'.
Doesnt' bother me that he might get credit for the dgu, I'm not a glory hound.
So add one to 208,381 makes it 208,382.

too bad the dumb-fuck shot somebody else. Tell me again why I shouldn't worry about being around asshats who carry guns in public places.

Worrying about the extremely improbable is bad for your mental health.

thought it improbable she'd get shot when she walked into Starbucks. I'll worry about my mental health if I ever think I should walk around in public with a gun.
