Armed clerk shoots, kills armed robber, Toledo, OH

http://www.northwestohio.com/news/story.aspx?id=967232#.UnsXSL7naos Video at link

TOLEDO, OH -- On Nov. 2, December Long was working as a store clerk at the Stop & Go at 3131 Sylvania Ave.

Police said around 9 p.m., Christopher Shockley attempted to rob the store at gun point, and Long grabbed a gun of her own from behind the counter.

"He came in to do the armed robbery. It turned into a gun fight," said Toledo Police Public Information Officer Joe Heffernan.

According to police, Shockley shot first, striking the clerk in the abdomen. Long then returned fire, hitting Shockley, and killing him.

More at link.

It is unclear from the article if Long grabbed for her gun before or after the robber fired. She is in the hospital and expected to recover. The armed robber had a prison record.

The community appears to be supportive of Long and praising her action.

It is much more likely that the clerk's gun would have been used on the clerk so please lets not just throw out logic.

Somehow the anti-gun crowd seems to think that criminals are super-ninjas who can take citizen's guns away from the citizens and use it on the citizen.

Real world. Rarely happens the way you describe. The truth is that the typical street criminal is very poorly trained about guns. Most of them are terrible shots.

If you can put up with the graphic security camera videos, you will see quite a few instances where thugs disrupt the normal flight pattern of bullets. Not too pretty.

On a side note, this one incident was posted in THIS group. Controller/banners REGULARLY post some incident "unfavorable" to lawful gun ownership and use in GD. Perhaps this is why you feel the OP is "one out of a million."

Would you like to see some of these videos in GD?

There is a steady stream of new and old local interest stories every week in GD about crimes with guns and accidents with no admonition to move them. I have no doubt the stories posted by GSC today would be closed immediately, since they don't support the oft promised innocent bystander bloodletting from any CCW usage.

All the while poor Castle Bansalot languishes with nothing new for days on end from its 90% of pro control supporters out there.

I also noticed no mention of the 65 NRA endorsed Virginia House Delegates that won Tuesday, just all about how McCauliffe's win with 48% of the vote and millions of Bloomberg $$, signals the death of the NRA's political influence ... again.

on the Innertube thru Google, etc. Would DU allow such in the Gungeon, let alone GD? Up to now, this Group has shown remarkable diplomacy when following even the "adjusted" TOS in GD.It should be a lesson for all DUers as to how legitimate, resilient and above-board the Gungeon has been over the long haul.

Weird.

We (can I say "we"?) are supposed to be mentally unhinged, emotionally fragile bullies with inclinations towards ego-driven acting out. Nothing like the erudite, measured and detached souls against whom we are pitted.

the fact that shots were fired is. The fact that it is a DGU, not as much since someplace between 100K and 2M take place each year without shots fired. It isn't the number of guns, it is the number of CCW holders or households with.

Yes it is a local story.

Clerk at a Stop & Go is pretty dangerous duty.

A friend I'd worked with at a machine shop who was fired and then worked for a convenience store drew his last breath after being shot at work during a robbery.

Get well soon, Ms. Long.
