House Passes Bill To Shield Info On Gun Permit Holders

RICHMOND - Concealed carry permit holders and applicants have a right to keep their information—physical descriptions, criminal and mental health histories, and fingerprints—private, according to a bill that passed the Virginia House.

"I don't believe that entire list en masse should be published, because a lot of those people are under witness protection programs ... (and) are trying to protect themselves from domestic violence," said Dominion Shooting Range Armorer David Robinson, 29, of Richmond, over the pop of pistols in the shooting range lobby Tuesday in Chesterfield.

The measure proposed by Delegate Mark Cole, R-Fredericksburg, would protect the information provided by people who apply for concealed handgun licenses.

The bill, passed Wednesday by an 81-17 margin, would exempt data about concealed carry permit holders from public disclosure and the Freedom of Information Act, a transparency tool that makes public data accessible.

"When you publish those lists, you've basically given up names to criminals that are already after those individuals and that's what should really be protected," said Robinson, who holds a concealed carry permit and carries a handgun daily.

The anti-gun side is always saying that criminals get their guns from legal gun owners yet they want the names of concealed license holders published. How smart is that to just advertise the names of those gun owners. Good job Virginia.

He could assume if the owner had one gun he prob has more and could hit the house while the owner was at work.

2. Gun Prohibitionists want CCW lists to be Public Knowledge

So they and the media can use the lists to self-righteously "out" people who have CCW to their friends, neighbors and employers. Letting criminals know, so they can target CCW holders, is just a side effect.

Her ex-husband liked to show up in the parking garage after our 7-10pm class, and she often had several of us larger students walk her out. She had restraining orders against him, but couldn't legally carry a gun on campus to defend herself. I'm sure her ex would have been pleased as pie if he could simply write in to a state agency and get her new, unlisted address to step up his efforts. Or, even better yet from his perspective, turn her in for having an old address on her CCW and try to get it revoked, leaving her with one less tool to repel him.

Cowards like her make me sick. Why couldn't she just stand up for her 2A rights and publish her address?

stickers on their vehicles. Just act like the pied piper and lead all the crooks to your house to come in an steal all your guns. Is that refusing to stand up for their 2A rights also?

Then when the did get stolen you'd be bitching about the gun owners that had the gall to have their guns stolen.

Hell, the neighbors see me load up for range day anyway, and I ask permission before I enter anyone's house with a firearm.

It's helps their agenda, and it's bonus points if the chp holder gets shot.

Then they're able to gloat over how guns were stolen and the holders gun didn't help. 2 for 1 victory...
