I see it's time for the NRA's and other assorted pro-gun group's funding drive to get started...

See, They just kicked it off, read more here.....

http://thehill.com/regulation/243520-administration-preps-new-gun-regulations

NRA has well over 6 million PAYING members, they must be going for 7 million dues paying members...

(yes I know it's not supposed to be a "fund and membership drive" but if history is any guide, the end result will be one, and a very effective one)

(snip)

In 2009, Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., and Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., introduced the Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Terrorists Act. The bill would have given the U.S. attorney general authority to block weapons sales to anyone on the government’s terrorist watch list. Supporters of the legislation noted that in the preceding five years, people on the list had tried to buy firearms at least 963 times, with an 89 percent success rate. They reasoned that it made no sense to pull such people aside as they were boarding airplanes but to look the other way when they purchased guns. Under the bill, anyone barred from buying a weapon could challenge the government’s determination of his ineligibility.

The NRA opposed the bill, claiming it would “deny law-abiding people due process and their Second Amendment rights.” As evidence, the NRA’s chief lobbyist cited a Justice Department report indicating that 6 percent of people on the list were included based on obsolete or extraneous FBI information. An editorial published by the NRA complained that the bill would lower “the standard measure of proof of guilt in criminal prosecutions” and that “whole segments of lawful firearms commerce could be wiped out.” The bill died in committee.

That same year, Maryland lawmakers introduced a bill that would give judges authority, when issuing protective orders against potential domestic violence, to “order the respondent to surrender to law enforcement authorities any firearm in the respondent's possession, and to refrain from possession of any firearm, for the duration of the temporary protective order.” Under the bill, this restriction couldn’t apply for more than a week. Nevertheless, the NRA called the legislation “unnecessary and unfair,” arguing that it would render “a victim of false allegations” unable to “defend himself at home or simply possess his own guns for any other lawful purpose.”

Are you in favor of denying citizens their civil rights due to a secret terrorist watch list? One that the late, great Ted Kennedy was on? How about ordinary Joe Citizen who has no recourse of even knowing their on it, much less being able to have their name removed for it?

On Sun May 31, 2015, 04:11 PM an alert was sent on the following post:

I see it's time for the NRA's and other assorted pro-gun group's funding drive to get started...
http://www.democraticunderground.com/1172167667

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

The money used in this fundraising drive will be used to fund Republicans in the upcoming elections. Just because this is the gungeon does not mean people should be able to encourage donations that will be used to fund right-wing politicians.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sun May 31, 2015, 04:39 PM, and the Jury voted 2-5 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I don't see where the author of the OP is fundraising for the NRA. Simply stating that such drive are about to get started is news, not a fund raising tactic.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I may have missed the point of this alert, but this post didn't read as a plea for money for the nra, to me it looked like a notice on what is going on. I'm giving the poster the benefit of the doubt...
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Not a jury matter, pm the hosts if you think it doesn't belong in the group.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Do not see how this post "encourages donations" - leave it.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: This post is in keeping with the purpose of the GCRKBA group; to discuss firearms and related issues. Perhaps the alerter should slink back to the GCRA group where "never is heard a dissenting word". Or they could just grow up.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

Looks like GCRA failed to shut down debate again.

29. Gun control suffers in a boa constrictor of American politics...
Mon Jun 1, 2015, 02:36 PM
Jun 2015

The gun control outlook is in the unenviable position of being in a state of powerlessness due to host of reasons, chief among them are the inability to form a popular movement, and the wont of credible, influential allies. What's worse, everytime a spokesperson or politician tries to break out of these inexorable coils, the result is huge opposition and even vigorous counter-measures, such as the continuing spate of liberalized gun laws, the obvious threat of popular recall, and long-term threats to Party viability. Yet those holding the control outlook have grown comfortable with the illusion that Jungle Jim will hack his way to a rescue via the agitprop of MSM. The result is ever more extremist appeals to cartoon stereotypes encompassing tens of millions of people, and ever more enthusiastic reliance on the "shock & awe" factor of a mass shooting, which increasingly turns off folks in general, and leads to more of the counter-productive measures described in the OP.

One of the main reasons I post in this group is to show how destructive the anti-gun culture war has become, and to encourage everyone to focus on societal problems (and homicides and crime are among them), and to get back to the business of ameliorating these problems, as FDR, LBJ and MLK had advocated. We are only now loosening the grip of one destructive prohibitionist policy -- the War on Drugs -- and it is past time to start backing off from the self-punishment of another: Gun control.
