X-post from GD: Borowitz (satire): Many in Nation Tired of Explaining Things to Idiots

Of the many obvious things that people are sick and tired of trying to get through the skulls of stupid people, the fact that climate change will cause catastrophic habitat destruction and devastating extinctions tops the list, with a majority saying that they will no longer bother trying to explain this to cretins.

Coming in a close second, statistical proof that gun control has reduced gun deaths in countries around the world is something that a significant number of those polled have given up attempting to break down for morons.

Finally, a majority said that trying to make idiots understand why a flag that symbolizes bigotry and hatred has no business flying over a state capitol only makes the person attempting to explain this want to put his or her fist through a wall.

In a result that suggests a dismal future for the practice of explaining things to idiots, an overwhelming number of those polled said that they were considering abandoning such attempts altogether, with a broad majority agreeing with the statement, “This country is exhausting.”

and no matter how you try to show the simple answers they just keep on repeating the same talking points.

... to say that calling something "talking points" isn't an adequate response to counter-arguments. If you want to discuss and debate issues, that's one thing. If you want to drop propaganda bombs and run, that's another.

So let's start talking about those stats, shall we?

Bit the fact is some nations with fewer guns have more suicides and violent crime while some nations with more liberal gun laws have fewer suicides and violent crime.

Access to guns is not a variable.

I call it my 'Critical Mass of Ridicule Theory': "If you make fun of your enemies often enough,
they'll eventually give up".

Seeing as most gun contr...safety advocates do little else, I believe my theory is
a valid one...

...are, by definition, the least likely to recognize that they are prone to it.

Seems many can't help themselves, and for legions of internet posters, net access
was just the opportunity they sought to eventually make a lot of noise.

After all, the value of opportunity depends on how well one handles it. Every body
should realize that no job is too small to do well...

But since re-re-re-explaining it will

-reduce pollution to undo some of the damage already done

-reduce crime and save lives with focused, realistic GC policy

-reduce racism and help people to realize we are all the same

I'm far from ready to give up trying to help idiots see the light. I'm stubborn that way
