So Dylan Roof bought his gun illegally
He slipped through the cracks because law enforcement -- you know, the ones who would enforce gun laws -- couldn't get the information that would have disqualified him into the NICS in a timely manner.
A vendor can put the exact same amount of information into the system in order to perform a BGC to facilitate a sale at a gun show or a retail establishment but the authorities can't light the fire in time to keep a gun out of a killer's hands. Remind me again how more laws will make this better.

3. This one is on the feds, not the locals
They told the feds, but the feds screwed up.
After Roof tried to buy a gun from a dealer outside Columbia on April 11, an FBI examiner found a felony drug charge in his record -- but in follow-up the examiner missed that Roof had actually admitted to possessing the drugs during his March arrest, Comey said. That admission should have barred Roof from buying the gun.
With no word from the FBI examiner, the dealer allowed Roof's purchase to go forward on April 16, according to the FBI director. http://abcnews.go.com/US/fbi-director-background-check-system-failed-allowing-charleston/story?id=32358311 |
