"Car-hopping" for firearms part of new trend

Firearms being stolen from unlocked cars is a growing trend in St. Johns County, law enforcement officials say.

The most surprising part of the trend, perhaps, is from where the weapons have gone missing.

“For the past seven years, we’ve been telling the community to lock their car doors or at least put their valuables out of sight,” said Cmdr. Chuck Mulligan, a spokesman for the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office. “But recently, we’ve seen some of the cars people break into have firearms in them.”

The emerging trend is for thieves to target a particular neighborhood, checking every unlocked car on a street for valuables.

1. According to news reports we are having

3. With no comment from the OP, are we to assume he approves of this trend?

After all, the OP wants to get as many guns as possible out of American homes and this seems to be getting some away from citizens.

In fact ... it may be an organized plan by some rogue gun controllers to secretly confiscate guns likely owned by "vile right wing NRA members"?

Nah! That would mean they had to get off their couch and actually do something.

Never mind.

6. You really don't have a clue what Meta is, do you?

You keep throwing it around for anyone that makes you look dense and uninformed, as if it meant something.

I was just speculating on another cut and paste piece with no commentary, discussion or insight from you.

But you are always free to go up to ATA and whine to Skinner a few more times about how mean everyone is to you down here.

That always ends well.

Or better yet, just go away for another few months and take your basement bloggers with you.

7. Please stop whining in here

It derails threads and mucks up the group.

10. And everyone says you have no sense ... of humor

But here you are trying to be funny.

Got it; doesn't know what Meta, Whining or Credible Sources means.

14. He's posted more about "whining" than about any of his cut and paste posts

He's put way more effort into complaining about how mean/meta we all are to him than he ever has about any basement blog he posts.

How twisted is that?

Please stop whining about something you have no control over.

It is demeaning and boring.

8. Getting rid of "gun free" zones would help.

Of course there's no excuse to leave a firearm in your vehicle parked at your domicile, but ditching "gun free" zones would help make everyone safer.

9. Safer matters but...

...some eyes see more value in opposing anything gun owners might like.
It's more important to "win" than anything else.

11. I'd have no objection to such a law.

I realize that full-blown 2nd Amendment purists would raise objections, but I think such laws would be worthwhile.

In my view the right to keep and bear arms infers an intrinsic responsibility to exercise that right responsibly, in a way that causes no significant, unjustified harm to others. A component of responsible exercise, in my view, is securing the weapon at all times. If it's not on your person or at least under your observation, then it needs to be locked up.

19. Touché. Sometimes it is just too easy picking off the logical fails.

A sensible law and enforceable deterrent to control some of America's 320 million deadly weapons.
