Storm Clouds on horizon... Latest NYT/CBS poll out on gun control

Democrats are starting too lose big on Gun Control...Imagine that.....Who could have predicted such?!

History is starting to repeat itself.

What has shifted notably are attitudes on gun control. Only 44 percent of Americans favor a ban on assault weapons, 19 percentage points lower than after the mass shooting in Tucson in 2011. And while 51 percent favor stricter gun control in general, that is down from 58 percent in October.

The tribal regressives who want to roll Muslim American relations back to 1800 and the regressives in the tribe who pine for 1789 are two batches of the same broken, rotten pashu*.

A pox on the regressive, fearful, prejudicial, ignorant, close-minded, irrational, reality-challenged, blood-lusting tribals in America who applaud efforts to destroy America to save a few fearful soulless from a gentle modest Muslim lady neighbor.

A pox on the regressive, fearful, prejudicial, ignorant, close-minded, irrational, reality-challenged, blood-lusting tribals in America who retard efforts to save America from the few fearful soulless abetting NRATERRORIST America because, you know, Sandy Hook was a false flag, Obama Gub'mint gun-grabbing, never happened myth**

* My best memory of the Sanskrit word for beast or animal

** But if it did, if Charleston did, if Virginia Tech did, if Colorado Springs did, if largely ignored toddler murderers did happen, then it is all worth it to have the 2nd amendment guns needed to destroy America in order to save it.

We as a party are doing pretty well on issues. We had major gains this year. Gun control is not on our side and might never be. Be thankful for the incredible gains we made in 2015. I know I am.

You know........the ones who blindly adhere to the verdict of empirical evidence on ALL issues. Those rotten apples who lack the arrogance to believe that they can pick and choose which issue to decide on evidence based reasoning vs faith based "reasoning".

The way the political winds are blowing now, it appears that Republican voter turnout will be strong while ours will be meh. (Assuming Hillary is our candidate)

Simultaneously, we are shrieking lies about "assault weapons" etc. as loud as we ever have.

Horrifying one-two combination. Can't remember ever wanting to be wrong more in my life.

9. That 19% drop for AWB is huge, but been in the making for years....

I believe this drop is due to the continuing education of the public as to what guns are what, not which guns are ipso facto "worse" than others. Just as the upswing in firearm sales has been going on since before Obama took office, there are some long-term trends which reflect activist education efforts, new viewpoints reaching Americans from outside the traditional MSM, and conversely, how utterly static the controller/banner/confiscator (CBC) outlook has become.

While I have seen little convincing evidence that an Armed and Carrying population has thwarted, stopped, or ameliorated crime, the public may have concluded that to be armed and carrying may be the only way to reduce the damage and frequency of "mass murder spectacles." We may find out if the public is right. In any case, this experiment Will go down with very little effective opposition.

Maybe our future will look more like Israel.

Pushing gun control after a terrorist attack, which would not have stopped said terror attack, tends to repulse thinking people.

Why wouldn't it.

Looks like my first fearful instincts were correct. Later I began to trust polls indicating a Clinton win. Drank the KoolAid. Of course there were many more factors that standing alone would have resulted in a Dolt 45 win.

Doesn't seem like anything was learned. The nattering about "assault weapon" bans and bans on regular capacity magazines persists.

va mtn man dec 2015:Storm Clouds on horizon. Democrats are starting too lose big on Gun Control...Imagine that.....Who could have predicted such?!

Oh my godda we all were gonna die, on or about christmas 2015.

va mtn man cont'd: What has shifted notably are attitudes on gun control. {dec 4-8 2015 cbs poll} Only 44% of Americans favor a ban on assault weapons {50% oppose}, 19 percentage points lower than after the mass shooting in Tucson in 2011.

Oh no, only 44% of murkins in 2015 supported banning assault rifles? hmm, dec 2015 was about a year & half ago, let's see what the sitch has been since then to today, aug 2017:

Hey, same poll just 6 months later!: CBS News Poll. June 13-14, 2016.
"Do you favor or oppose a nationwide ban on assault weapons?"
57 favor ... 38 oppose ..6

Dems june 2016 .. 78 favor .. 18 oppose; .. dems dec 2015 ... 64 favor ... 32

Amazing mtrn man, from -6 pt net dec 2015, to +19 pt net in just 6 short months! Storm clouds gone, mostly sunny today!

McClatchy-Marist Poll. July 5-9, 2016 N=1,214 adults nationwide.
Do you favor or oppose a law to ban the sale of assault weapons and semi-automatic rifles?"
....... Favor ..Oppose.. Unsure
ALL ....51 ...46 ... 3
Dems.. 74 ...23... 3
Rep.... 30 ...66... 4
Ind.... 48 ...49... 3

Wow, whew, what a relief, murkins have regained some of their senses, from -6 to +5 in favor of banning asslt rifles. I guess va mtn man's storm clouds have kinda dissipated into partly sunny, eh?

va mtn man: dec 2015: And while 51% favor stricter gun control in general, that is down from 58% in October.

CBS News Poll. April 21-24, 2017. N=1,214 adults nationwide. Margin of error ± 3.
In general, do you think laws covering the sale of guns should be more strict, less strict, or kept as they are?
.......More strict .. Less strict.. Kept as they are.. Unsure
4/21-24/17 .. 54 .. .. 11 ...... 33 ...............2

Again, support for stricter gun control regarding gun sales is up, by very same cbs, to +10 over the rest. And that 11% 'less strict' figure has kept pretty stable to 10% for past 4 years. Should we infer that only 10% of americans support the nationwide ccw law being pushed by wayne lapierre-head & his nra stooges?

Quinnipiac University. June 21-27, 2016. N=1,610 registered voters nationwide. Margin of error ± 2.4.
"Do you support or oppose a nationwide ban on the sale of assault weapons?"
......Support .......Oppose ...Unsure/No answer
6/21-27/16 ...59 ..37 .........4

Oh my godda va mtn man! it's getting worse for you, 59% support - sunny!
.. are you hyperventilating? lie down & elevate your legs!

Suffolk University/USA Today. June 26-29, 2016. N=1,000 likely voters
Hillary Clinton has called for a ban on assault weapons. Do you support or oppose this idea?"
.......... support ...... oppose ... unsure ... refused
6/26-29/16 ....56 ..34 ......8 ... 2

CNN/ORC Poll. June 16-19, 2016.
"A ban on the manufacture, sale and possession of semi-automatic assault guns, such as the AK-47."
6/16-19/16 54 favor 44 oppose 2 unsure

(Note, ABC 2016 poll had 51-48 support; NBC 2016 51-31-18; Somebody better check on vmm...

It is not an issue that stirs the passions - that's why it was a non-issue in the election.

Opinions oscilate in a narrow band around 50%. Been that way for a long time.

If only there was a followup question right after that one which asked, "What is an assault weapon? Please define what qualifies a firearm as an assault weapon."
