Republican gun control zealot faces 130 years behind bars!

NY Senate Republican, Dean Skelos

In 2013, as Senate Leader, Skelos was responsible for suspending Senate rules and bringing the NY SAFE Act to the floor. He later voted for the SAFE Act and advocated its passage.

Skelos and his son, Adam, were arrested on federal corruption charges on May 4, 2015, including "conspiracy, extortion, and solicitation of bribes" according to The New York Times.[7] The charges deal with the awarding of a $12 million contract to a company that hired his son. Investigators allegedly caught him on wiretaps boasting of his power.[8] Skelos vacated his post as Senate Majority Leader on May 11, 2015, a week after being charged.[9]

On May 11, 2015, Skelos stepped down as the Majority Leader of the New York State Senate, because he lost support amid Senate Republicans after being charged with criminal corruption.[9] He was convicted on December 11.

He faces up to 130 years. Perhaps he should have spent more time controlling his urge to pick the public's pocket, and less time trying to control guns while in office.

He was a leading (and "award-winning&quot gun-control leader in CA before he was convicted of

International gun-trafficking.

Some can't stand legal competition.

He awaits sentencing.

3. I disagree with his views on gun control but that isn't why he faces 130 years behind bars

He appears to be a crook, and that has nothing to do with gun control.

I never suggested he was going to jail for gun control. He is going to jail for being a crook. My point is he should have spent less of his time in office on gun control, and more time on not being a crook.

5. Didn't we go through this with the Mayors Against Illegal Guns too?

They were all Gung Ho for gun control law and order, then over time a lot of them got arrested for everything from fraud and assault to child porn and child molestation, until Bloomberg was so embarrassed that he had to create Everytown and let MAIG quietly go away.

Sounds like New York may have some of the same problems emerging.

7. New York government has traditionally been "three men in a room."

Those men are the Governor, the Assembly Speaker, and the Senate President. (Two Democrats and a Republican, usually.) Whatever they decide will be rubber-stamped by the Legislature. Now two of those three are on their way to jail.

These are the men who were instrumental in the passage of the New York SAFE Act. Ask me how it feels that my rights have been abrogated by felons.

His suspending rules to ram through his own desires should have told the NY people a little about his character. Every single piece of any law he had his hand in should be looked at carefully and thrown out if the people desire.

Fuck a crook...
