RIP 2016 Maryland Gun Control Bills....

Maryland's state legislature loaded up the legislative bong with all kinds of off the wall gun control proposals this legislative session.

The state Bloomberg backed controllers pushed the following "sensible, common sense" legislation:

1) Toy gun ban
2) Universal background checks for rifles/shotguns (handguns already require background checks)
3) Terror watch list bill
4) Ban on campus carry (CCWs were NOT excluded from this proposed law)
5) A bill that would treat antiques as modern firearms for regulatory purposes


...And several other pieces of crap, like a domestic violence bill that didn't make sense as it was actually weaker than existing federal law...the sad thing is that the antis couldn't be bothered to take an inventory of existing laws.

And guess what? They all failed as of an hour ago under Democratic super majorities in the state house and senate. Is this the tipping point?

I'll update this post as the news outlets and antis hear the "bad news." Day in and day out, pro-rights individuals made calls, testified on bills, wrote letters, met with legislators, protested, made more calls, sent donations, etc. The controllers showed up one day on a Bloomberg charter bus, only to be heard from periodically via Facebook.

P.S. in the coming days I will spotlight these big wins in Oregon, Virginia, Maryland, and several other states that accomplished big things this legislative season.

Background checks are required for any gun sold by a FFL or that crosses state lines. In state sales between private citizens that reside in the state are governed by state law which varies from state to state. I am inferring from the OP that in MD private sales of handguns require a background check, but private sales of rifles and shotguns do not require a background check.

3. There is no CCW in Maryland

unless you are well connected. While the law may in theory allow for CCW, in reality permits are almost never issued. NJ, NYC, parts of MA and CA are the same way.

Who ignores any type of gun control law. So law-abiding citizens in Maryland are unarmed and unable to protect themselves.

In all seriousness, I would not be the least bit surprised to see this sort of thing pushed harder for in the future.
