With all of this talk about Assault Rifle restrictions.

I think the shooter in Dallas played a prank on everyone trying to increase controls on firearms. He used an SKS carbine which is considered a curio or relic under the NFA, so passing laws would have done nothing to prevent this tragedy.

It's Society that's fucked-up. We need more law s to make Society safe for every one, that means things like not losing your Home because of medical bills, going hungry, and a thousand other things that can make one's life a misery ad shorten our lifespan. Make Society work for everyone, not just the wealthy elites. Laws are not just for little people.

1. The SKS he used was almost certainly not a relic; it would have been a replica by that rule (nt)

2. No reproductions were ever made of the SKS.

3. I belive the Chinese version was in production through 1994, so the only way the above rule

would apply, unless the actual weapon is over 50 years old.

Do you have proof that the gun used in Dallas is 50 years old? I have seen no such information, but I have no problem with being proven wrong.

Edited to correct my inaccurate subject line

7. I believe imports of Chinese SKS's ceased a long time ago,

due to import sanctions against the Chinese company Norinco, though millions were imported prior to the late?-1990s when importation ceased. If it was a non-Chinese SKS, it was probably a C&R (my ex-wife's Russian SKS was made in 1952), but if Chinese-made it probably wasn't.

8. Several websites list serial number into the 90's

This one lists production numbers into the 90s.

Dating THE CHINESE sKs

I am no expert on it, and if that can be refuted, I'll be glad to retract my statement.

11. I am thinking importation ceased in the mid-1990s, which is 20 years ago.

I remember seeing Chinese SKS's for $69 around 1993-1994 and thought about picking one up, but passed for financial reasons. My then-wife later picked up a Russian (1952 Tula) instead for $99.00; she suggested getting two, and I should have listened.

10. SKS is C&R eligible

I purchased a Chinese SKS with my C&R license before Oregon passed a law making the C&R license useless.

9. He didn't use an SKS

He used a Saiga AK-74 if the following photo circulating the 'net of what is alleged to be his rifle is true.

12. Yep, Saiga with aftermarket stock.

Here's the Saiga in its factory straight stock:

Which is not, I'll point out, an "assault weapon". No protruding handgrip, no "evil features", just a plain civilian semiauto rifle.

13. Yes.

Saiga in factory configuration is even legal in New York. I don't know about California.
