Pro-gun people and anti-gun people: Where do they stand on free speech?

Pro-gun people and anti-gun people: Where do they stand on free speech?

That became my question after making some interesting observations in this thread about free speech in GD:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10028123637

If you're anti-gun, where do you stand?

If you're pro-gun, where do you stand?

Me personally, I have more faith in open discussion of ideas, than I do in 'bouncers'.

(Note: I'm referring here to free speech in general, not speech on DU per se.)

you would be against free speech. While most pro-gun Democrats would support free speech. Republicans are pretty against all the amendments but #2.

If someone wants me to control something they have to come up with a reason better than, "That's what those other people do."

Keep the emotions at home.

Emotions have probably sent a few innocent people to the electric chair.

People that are willing to "sell out one" ignorantly lay the ground work to sell them ALL out..

Our Bill of Rights is NOT like a cheap Chinese Buffet...It is NOT to be picked over for the things one likes, and doesn't like...It is an all or nothing affair.

Of all the enumerated and reserved rights of the people limited only by the minimum necessary restrictions.

If that makes people feel the need to label me pro gun, I don't really care they are free to do so.

Its been 2 days, and no 'bouncer' supporters have shown up, nor have any anti-gunners shown up who support free speech.

What are we to make of this?

Based on reading their posts for over a decade, it's become pretty clear that the majority of them feel a need to control lots of other things as well.

Some favor kicking in doors to forcibly confiscate guns and demanding gun owners go into a pubicly available registry.

They fall just a little short of demanding they all wear special tags, hats or yellow stars when they go out so they can spot them in a crowd.

Well, ... most of them anyway.

I support the idea of being able to yell, "Fire." in a crowded theater when there is no fire.
I also support the powers of the government to arrest, charge, try and sentence you for inciting a riot.

I don't think there's a way to additionally clarify my position but feel free to ask.

The dirt exposed itself, I just had the resolve to point it out, and stand with the majority pointing and laughing.

between those who would control gun rights and free speech, and the fact that Democratic gun rights supporters support free speech as well.

There was the predictable deafening silence in response to the post where you drew that observation --- no doubt more than a few members felt uncomfortable regarding your gall in pointing to that particular inconvenient truth.

Mostly, I was just thinking that the thread in question, and this one, would be handy to point to next time some anti-gun cultist levels the accusation that pro-gun folks are the ones who don't support free speech...though it may be a while before any of them make that accusation, now.
