"A Family-Friendly Zombie Shoot Just 60 Miles From Chicago"

"The Aurora Sportsman’s Club, not even an hour west of Chicago in Waterman, Illinois, held its tenth annual Zombie Shoot on Saturday. With ten stages and opportunities for everyone, it proved a big hit for 210 registered shooters ranging from novices to skilled experts. One hundred twenty-five volunteers from the club stepped up to help make sure the event went smoothly and safely for all involved.

While often-windy Windy City politicians love to blame the presence of guns for the insane violence on display in America’s largest outdoor shooting gallery they call Chicago, strangely enough there were no injuries, much less deaths at this family-friendly event chock full of guns, big and small.

<snip>

While some stages had shooters on a timer, the scores and times weren’t recorded – it was a very non-competitive “bragging rights only” event. I saw lots of big smiles and very few frowns. More than a few ladies and young folks came out to shoot, which is always good to see. Better still, the entire event was family- and novice-friendly from start to finish. The range officers/stage bosses all knew their stuff and cheerfully assisted those who needed a hand."

I've attended this several times in the past, couldn't go this year, but now it's become a huge local event with over 200 active participants and at least as many spectators. Lots of families and 6 of my Pink Pistol graduates were there. AR-15s were the rifle of choice, with a few M1 carbines and a Garand or two. But the Carbine's had a real challenge to reach out at the 400 and 600 yard stations.

This year they had two sections for all the Walking Dead fans. One for the Zombies and one for the "Wolves". Somehow I doubt the event will get any coverage from the Tribune or any news outlet. Doesn't fit the narrative and nobody had so much as a pinched finger.

2. Always a lot of fun

This year, just for fun, the Silencerco people brought out some of their cans, some guns and cases and cases of ammo so people could hear the difference firsthand between supressed and unsupressed. Pretty much ended the Hollwood "pfft" myth.

It was tougher this year though, with a 600 yard shot from a raised platform at a day glo green trap clay "Zombie Head".

4. The "Stages" makes for some interesting reading.

The link I posted has some of the pictures showing the stages in action.

The thing they downplay, is it's been for a different charity every year.
