The CT State Police issued 30,000 new gun permits in 2016, compared to 13,000 in 2015.

Is this that mythical "tipping point" the gun control extremists keep promising?

Literally, "Your Mileage May Vary," coming from the small print in (American?) automobile commercials in the 70's and 80's. It has come to mean an acknowledgement that the opinion of the poster may not be shared by everyone.

The law changed after Newtown so you can't even buy ammo without a permit. And if I have to get a state permit to buy ammo, I'm going to get the one that lets me do everything; i.e., a concealed pistol permit. So I did.

Cost a pretty penny too. And Malloy wants to triple the price of the permit now.

The photo with the article suggests CCW, though there is no language specifically indicating concealed carry. So 'permit' = CCW?

6. CT residents need a permit to buy a firearm or ammo

There are 3 grades of permit in CT
Ammo permit: allows one to buy ammo and nothing else.
Long gun permit: allows one to buy a rifle or shotgun and ammo, but not a handgun
Pistol permit: allows one to buy and carry* a handgun as well as buy a long gun and buy ammo

Legally a CT pistol permit allows for open carry, although few do so.

...and I have a Connecticut non-resident pistol permit. I wonder if that entitles me to all of the above.

18. Federal and the applicable state laws still apply

So I am pretty sure you can buy ammo and a rifle or shotgun, presuming of course it is legal to own in CT & NY. A handgun would still be required to go through a NY FFL.

However, you may run into gun stores that MAY refuse to sell you a rifle or shotgun because they are overly cautious, in that they would rather lose the sale then possibly deal with the ATF or the respective state AG's or law enforcement.

Any big box store that sells ammo may choose not to accept your CT non-resident permit since they are less conversant with CT law and again would rather lose the sale then possibly deal the respective state AG's.

Some state attorney generals have filed lawsuits against companies and internet sites in the firearms and accessories industry for selling things to state residents even though the item was nominally legal to sell. Prior AG's in MA were notable for this and if you do any internet shopping for firearms accessories, you will run into companies that will not ship to MA, NY, CT and some other states. It just isn't worth the aggravation or risk for them.

NORWICH — Pistol permit applications have been on the rise over the last year, nearly doubling from 2015 to 2016, throughout Eastern Connecticut and the state overall.

The number of pistol permit applications processed by the State police for the entire state of Connecticut nearly doubled between 2015 and 2016, according to statistics provided by state police spokeswoman Kelly Grant.

The number of new pistol permits issued throughout the state in 2016 was 29,941 compared to 17,327 in 2015, a difference of 12,614 equating to a 72.8 percent increase in one year.

but it must be all those old white guys getting multiple permits to make all those multiple gun purchases that I've been hearing about.
