Missouri House passes bill for guns in churches, buses

By SUMMER BALLENTINE

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) ó Missouriís Republican-led House on Monday passed a bill that would allow guns in churches and on public transportation.

House lawmakers voted 109-36 in favor of the proposal, which now goes to the GOP-led Senate for consideration.

Currently, people need permission from religious leaders to bring firearms into places of religious worship in Missouri.

The pending bill would allow people with concealed carry permits to bring guns into churches, synagogues and mosques, and onto public transportation.

Missouri doesnít require a concealed carry permit for gun ownership, but having a permit allows gun owners to bring their weapons into some otherwise restricted areas in the state.

4. Yeah, if only South Carolina ...

... had had a ban on guns in churches, he wouldn't have been able to murder those people.

"No guns on public transportation" sounds pretty classist to me.

I live in NY, where a person who has a carry permit is not banned from carrying a firearm in churches, public transportation, or even bars. Furthermore, New York has a "castle doctrine," which allows one to use lethal force against an intruder in one's own home, without a duty to retreat.

Let's not be too quick to jump on Missouri.

3. These type of restrictions always leave me wondering:

Is there something special about the people from Missouri that they need these extra restrictions that the rest of us don't have?
