ECSO seeking 2 home invasion suspects; investigating if 3rd was shot in head by homeowner

Source

Escambia County deputies are investigating an armed home invasion where it is believed an intruder suffered a non-fatal gunshot wound to the head from the homeowner.

Simmons said the homeowner was in the house alone when three men, one armed with a gun, shoved their way inside. The victim reportedly pulled his own handgun from his waistband, but dropped the weapon. One of the three intruders picked up the gun, but the homeowner was able to run to a backroom and retrieve an "AK-47-style gun," Simmons said.

The men fled the residence, but investigators were able to identify two of the suspects as Antonio DeWayne Dean Jr., 18, and Da'Torrance Leanders Hackworth, 20. Arrest warrants related to the home invasion have been issued for both men. Dean also has active warrants for previous alleged offenses including domestic violence battery, carjacking, aggravated assaults with a firearm and robbery with a firearm, Simmons said.

Simmons also emphasized the homeowner would "absolutely not" be charged for shooting at the suspects. "The homeowner's protecting himself, and in Florida, in Escambia County, you can protect yourself," Simmons said.

Hope they catch the intruders and put them in jail for life especially the one with many warrants.

Meanwhild YTD 790 people were shot "unintentionally" which I suppose means by accident.

572 children under the age of 11 were shot.

42,720 were killed or injured by guns.

Weigh all that against the 595 unicorns, er I mean defensive gun usages.

Then there's this from the NIH:

Individuals in possession of a gun were 4.46 times more likely to be shot in an assault than those not in possession. Among gun assaults where the victim had at least some chance to resist, this adjusted odds ratio increased to 5.45.

Two rainbow farting unicorns!

Ya' know what, why don't you just go here: https://www.gunviolencearchive.org/ There you can find each and every one of the 595 DGUs and the verified news report. All ya' gotta' do is sort through the 40,000 other dead and wounded.

https://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/cdc-study-use-firearms-self-defense-important-crime-deterrent

About 6 paragraphs down:

"The Institute of Medicine and the National Research Council released the results of their research through the CDC last month. Researchers compiled data from previous studies in order to guide future research on gun violence, noting that “almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year.”

This study was commissioned by Pres. Obama in 2013.

And, if a criminal is in possession of a firearm while committing a crime, well, yes, he may very well have a higher chance of being shot. If they count the perp in with the civilian population.

it was a compilation of existing research projects. It included the widely debunked Kleck 'research' that claimed 2 million DGUs a year. Among the flaws found in that "study" were no controls for false positives or negatives and the lack of control for gun owners vs non gun owners when extrapolating from the study to the general population. In other words, it wasn't a 'study' so much a telephone poll. As evidence for it's exaggerated claims one citation showed that the number of estimated woundings of assailants was larger than the total number of gunshot wounds treated in the year of the poll was taken.

So, yeah, those numbers still get included in various reports but no reliable statistician accepts them.

As an aside, when it is pointed out that only 30% of those surveyed own guns the gunners all say that nobody would tell a telephone poll that they own a gun, so the polls are faulty. On the other hand gunners openly and enthusiastically embrace Kleck's numbers gleaned from a . . . telephone poll. Why's that?

would been a better defensive weapon, even if limited to 4 rounds. In fact bird shot, thought less deadly, would have been all that’s needed in a home.
In a state with a “duty to retreat” first, it would always my first move.

in the head with her 40 caliber survive pistol and it turned and ran after the round bounced off its head. It survived. But it did run off. One doesn’t need to kill someone with 60 rounds, just stop the attack. The last thing I’d ever want to do is kill another human being.

I'm just saying that I wouldn't go light when my family or my own life is at stake. Same reason I wouldn't depend on a .22 LR. It's called personal protection for a reason, some people's choice while adequate for their own conditions would be unsatisfactory for someone else.

My own is 10 MM, my wife's is .223. If #6, or 7 1/2 works for your needs, it works for your needs, just not mine.

I hope everyone has a plan for the worst ( 50 cal, .410 snake charmer, a barking dog, or running out the back door, etc. ) , but never have to put it to the test.

“Cheap home security”. Lots of easy and cheap ways to keep the bad guys from even thinking about picking your home to invade. Ounce of prevention to stop them.
Shooting a buy guy can cause you wish you had found a better way. Revenge by the guys friends, hiring lawyers to start. A lot of tuff soldiers learned about a lifetime of PSTD after a defensive act that was justified.

without a pocket knife and showed me his Swiss Officer's knife. He said it saved his life.

I said,"What, you killed a man with that??"

He said, "No, I made him stop doing what he was doin'."

Me, "What was he doin'?"

Him, "Killin' me."

Moral of the story is killin' somebody ain't the point.
