White died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to police.

“Our hearts do go out to the families of the deceased,” Livonia Mayor Jack Kirksey said, calling the situation a “great tragedy.”

The investigation is “still a work in progress,” said Kirksey, who was briefed by the city’s police chief.

Kirksey said the killing appears to have started about 7:30 a.m. when the alleged killer came to the home.

Using an axe is a real statement. You don't just want them dead you want them obliterated, taken apart never to be whole again. Can't say whether the victims would have lived if one was armed or not. Arguing about that is kind of a pointless act of dipping your hands in the victims' blood for your own purposes.

I wonder where the ax came from and who picked it up first or did he bring it with him as back up for his gun. Bottom line, I don't think we can blame either gun proliferation or ax proliferation. More like obsessive boyfriend syndrome gone wild. I think anyone who has raised daughters can relate.
