Hollywood vs Reality

I see a lot of posts here that have some serious misconceptions about the reality of a gun fight. This video is about police officers but its lessons are equally applicable to everyone who uses a firearm for self defense.

Second, Hollywood is nowhere near reality.

Does that cover it?

How much do you think gun sales increase when a popular actor sports a new gun in a movie, saves the day from a whole gang, and has beautiful girls fall all over him?

Dirty Harry and his Model 29 .44 Magnum, the line in U.S. Marshals about getting a Glock and losing that "nickel plated sissy pistol", or movies like Lethal Weapon with the Beretta 92FS. As for them showing that everyone needs to buy one of these... well most of us understand the difference between fantasy and reality. If we're looking to buy a new gun for the range though... well marketing works and there's nothing wrong with it.

5. Racking the slide.

We've seen this in countless movies and tv shows.  Someone has been pointing a shotgun towards his opponent for some time, and then (to be really dramatic) racks the slide.  Ker-chak!  Cool sound effect, but since we don't see a shell fly out, it can only mean that all this time the weapon hasn't had a round in the chamber; if the trigger had been pulled, nothing would have happened.

Then there's the character racking the slide more once, just to be really dramatic. Since no shells come out, this means the gun is unloaded. Tackle him, quick!

What's really dumb is when the ker-chack sound effect is used as a character merely points a gun at someone!  I've seen this done in a number of movies recently.
