At least they didn't call it an AK47.
But it is "obviously" a "high powered bolt action Mosin Nagant rifle"

(236 posts)That thing would have some crazy recoil without a stock.

(1,954 posts)Or if he did, he's a glutton for punishment; my Mosin leaves bruises if I don't brace 'er just right before firing. I can't imagine trying to fire that gun without a stock.

(12,751 posts)Actually, it looks more like an older military style sniper rifle now that I look closer, but I can't tell from that picture alone.
You would think the one thing you Gungeoneers would know something about is the definition of different sorts of firearms. Looks like some of you don't even know that much.

(17,502 posts)looking at the bolt handle, it is an old bolt action military rifle. Sniper/hunting rifle depends on who is using it.
the word facetious comes to mind.

(6,185 posts)That's why I wondered if it was a cut down SKS. The length looks more like the charging handle for an SKS than an older M-N bolt. The SKS is at least semi auto.
But it's hard to tell from that picture.
Straw Man
(6,955 posts)... or I'm a monkey's uncle. Probably an M44 with the bayonet removed or an M38. It's short because the stock has been cut down or off.
Woe be unto him if he were to try and fire it from that position: broken collarbone if he's lucky.
I have lots of experience with Mosins: M44s, 91/30s, and M39s. The bolt handle, barrel band, and front sight hood tell the whole story.

But I just checked my M44 and it really does have a really short bolt handle.
I agree on getting his ribs cracked if he tried to fire it though, not to mention deafened and starting anything in front on fire with the muzzle blast.

(18,318 posts)"7.62mm M1944 Carbine. The last of the Mosin Nagant Service weapons; this carbine is basically the same as the M1938 carbine, but has a cruciform section bayonet permanently fixed to its right side. This was the principal shoulder weapon of the Communist Forces in Korea..."
This cruciform appears several inches back of the muzzle on right side, clocked 90° from vertical.

(6,955 posts)... in the OP pic -- that's why I think it's a 38 (or a 44 with the bayonet removed).
