Uphill battle: Contract bid protest likely a losing process

SEK Solutions wants a piece of a $200 million federal contract to supply tents to the military.

The company wants part of that contract so badly that it essentially halted the procurement process for the past two years while fighting a Defense Department decision that effectively limits a small business like SEK from competing with large corporations.

SEK recently learned that it lost its fight through what’s called the bid protest process.

“Obviously, the findings didn’t go our way,” said Ron Villanueva, a partner in the Virginia Beach company and a state delegate. “It’s a pretty competitive world.”
