U.S. reveals troops on the ground in Yemen

A “small number” of U.S troops are deployed on the ground in Yemen to help fight the al-Qaida affiliate there that was controlling a major port city, a defense official said Friday.

A Pentagon spokesman declined to say how many U.S. troops are there supporting operations led by the Yemeni military and the United Arab Emirates around the port city of Mukalla.

“We have a small number of people who have been providing intelligence support,” the spokesman, Navy Capt. Jeff Davis, told reporters Friday.

The U.S. troops deployed about two weeks ago and are at a “fixed location” providing intelligence support as well as “airborne (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance), advice and assistance with operational planning, maritime interdiction and security operations, medical support and aerial refueling,” Davis said.

To wipe out the civilian population this way.

Mass starvation and aerial bombardment was taking ages.

And sure it'll speed up the recovery of al Qaeda and ISIS in Yemen as well.

Win win.

It's boots on the ground. Troops on the ground sounds more like actual flesh and blood is involved. We prefer to think of our invasions/occupations of other nations as footwear-driven.

BTW, are we still operating under the Bushco Era authorization to use military force of 2001, or have we updated it? I've lost track. If we are still under a fifteen year old authorization, aren't we defeating the reason that the Framers required a vote of Congress to declare war? Among other things, how do we hold people running for Congress accountable in November for a 15-year old vote? We have a Presidential election coming up and the candidates don't even have to mention their positions on that vote? Heck, soon that vote will be old enough to vote!

Fuck endless wars.

They know how to get rich on war; they've learned to get rich on talking peace and "peace process."

That millennium of peace in Ancient Egypt might be the place to start your search.
