50 years ago today

I put on my dress blues for the final time. I and about 20 other guys stood at attention as a Captain thanked us for our service, told us how much the Navy would miss us, handed us our DD-214s and officially released us from active duty.

I’m thinking of the movie, “From Here to Eternity” and song they did call Reenlistment Blues. Glad you escaped and got another 50 years.

I got out July 1, 1977, having served on two WW2 era ships. Made some of the best friends in my life, and made some officers absolutely hate me!
You must have been on a big ship, for 20 to be getting discharged on the same day!

It was a guided missile frigate. We were all from separate commands based in San Diego, which is a huge base.
