I have a question maybe you guys can answer.

My brother-in-law passed away in 2014 and my sister hasn't recovered very well. She's in the process of moving 1000 miles to live across the street from me.
Her husband served in the Army during the Vietnam Era. What is the best thing to do with his uniforms? I suggested we give away pants and anything not having Army ensignias. But what about shirts with his name and dress uniform and overcoat?

1. Why give them away?

Most families want to keep loved ones' uniforms.

2. Neither has a place to keep them. Going from house to small

apartment.

4. Once your sister is certain she's ready to pass these items along

Suggest she contacts the local VFW or American Legion, or Veterans for Peace. Someone might know of a needy vet who would appreciate some extra clothes.

The insignias can be removed in some cases and can be a nice keepsake.

Best of luck to your sister and I appreciate your brother in law's service. Vietnam vets are very, very special to me.

6. That's what I did with all but one BDU uniform of mine

I took all the patches and whatnot and stashed them in a ziplock bag and threw them in a box full of my army stuff. I personally want nothing to do with that stuff anymore, but I realize I might have grandkids someday who want to know about my military experiences.
