When someone comes into Trump's orbit, one of two things happens to them. If Trump perceives them as an enemy, he slanders them, gives them an insulting nickname and lies about them. If Trump perceives them as an ally, they are slimed with Trump-goo and the encounter damages or tarnishes them irredeemably.

I don't believe that John Kelly and I have much in common but I recognize and respect his service to our country. Yet he has now allowed his own reputation to be determined by his association with Trump.

4. I still work in the DoD

I think that the commanders in the field are staying out of the fray and the retired political appointees and the Joint Chiefs/Service Chiefs and deputy service chiefs are politic-ing their asses off.

So far Sec. Mattis keeps sending out sane directives and has not done much Trump smooching, so... Maybe?

I hope so at least, since every other retired officer in this admin has turned out to be weak dishonest or outright criminal.

The whole idea is insane to me though. This is the USA, we should not have a situation where the military is acting as check to civilian authority - It's a horrible and unconstitutional arrangement.

But the GOP does not give a single shit about the constitution.
