I'm putting this here because everything is so much harder, it seems, when you're a senior..!

On Thursday, just before everyone took off for the Fourth, my bathroom exploded. This was just after someone sent my mailbox flying down the street. My cats and dog were already nervous wrecks from all the explosions, and I wasn't doing much better than them. The mailbox immediately got pushed to the back of the priority scale and I dug in to deal with the bathroom. First thing we did was took what little money we had and rented a hotel room for the night. Should say our SS checks weren't due to come in til the 8th of July... so we, of course, were sailing on very little money in the account, and had already pushing the credit cards to what felt comfortable. I was a basket case. The first plumbing co we called was talking multiple thousands of dollars and I had no idea where that was going to come from! First, they said a cleaning crew would have to do their thing before they'd even touch it. None of this was going to happen until Monday. That means lots of trips to 7-11, a few miles a way, every day. I've said before what a wonderful insurance office I have with State Farm here in town. Today, I called them first thing and explained the outline of everything. She had me come down to the office to talk to me, in depth, to see what we could do vs what we have to do. I've got the first "have to do" down in the basement right now. He's getting a clean up estimate so I can give it to my ins agent. Estimate came in at $50 less than my deductible. But clean up could be done today. Plumbing, probably would have to be tomorrow.

I'm going crazy, but I'm being guided by a really good person in my agent, and also by a really close friend. If I make it through this, it will be because of them. I just have to figure out where I come up with $3600 now!

This really has been an experience I'd wish on no one. I don't dare leave my darling hubby here alone, so I've been dragging him around everywhere I need to go. I don't dare take my eyes of him, for fear of him wandering where I could lose him. And I still have to remember to get him his meds on his timetable.

My DiL was here when the plumbing company came. We were out buying the sprayer and cleaning supplies. I figured I could save $3000 by doing the cleaning ourselves. The company did a thorough auger, from what she said. They told her it was done and they left. But, they left no billing, no phone number, or anything. The previous company (the "Cleaning company) wanted $3001 to do the cleaning and it had to all be paid by the time they finished. Our entire SS combined couldn't cover that! My phone charge died before I could get back in touch with my agent (who has their number), but I won't be filing a claim on this because this isn't covered, turns out. So, I'm still in a situation of "I don't know" and I don't think anyone (other than DiL) has been brave enough to use the toilet yet. I know I haven't. I do know there's a bit of dancing a jig around here (LOL).

Gods, if this wasn't such a disaster in this heat wave, it'd be one of those comedy sketch routines. And I AM trying to keep my sense of humor about it all. My good friend has an extra mailbox, and he's donating that to us once this bathroom mess is taken care of. And once I can calm down deep within the cats will, too. You know how they can sense it, even when you're trying your damnedest to hide it! I know we'll be okay, somehow. I just can't see how we get from here to there right now. Thanks for your thoughts... they mean a lot to me... like a remote hug... !

Check with your insurance agent to see if they offer service line interruption. It should cover from your water meter into your home & all sewage related issues out to the sewer.

I have State Farm & it was about $240/yr, but it has a $500 deductible & pays up to $10k!

My home is about 50 yrs old, as are all thd homes in my neighborhood. Went outside one day & neihhbor had a plumbing truck there & thdy were digging around. The next day, heavy eqpt was digging up ths yard! Neighbor later told me his sewer line collapsed. Yikes!

So I called ins agent. They could only add this rider at annual renewal, but it is now in place, thankfully!

Some years ago, a fridnd's septic line froze (Chgo region) & toilet became a poop fountain, spewing everywhere. What a mess! Fortunately, their ins covered it, but they had to live in apt while hardwood floors, etc. Were replaced.

I hope you can get some help, V! Hugs to you. 💞

grandson just came up to tell me the sump pump just broke. Am gonna send hubs down to see if it's too much for him to fix. I remember we had one that broke in the old house, and he managed to fix that one. Here's crossing my fingers he can do the same magick with this one!
