I remember my first tuxedo.

1957?
I had a date with a girl for her high school sorority formal dance.
It was called a 'lead out'. (that's pronounced 'leed')

I just remember being surprised (and kind of disappointed) that the wide cumberbund didn't go all the way around.
It was all 'show' in the front going to a little strap in the back.

I think there may be a metaphor there.

Ladies and girls used to wear collars ... you put them on over a sweater. That was some weird stuff back then.

And I guess guys still wear those fake ties, you know, the ones that just stick under the collar, they are already knotted.

What were we thinking?

I wore one of those clip on ties when I was an airline pilot.

I was in the cabin trying to deal with a drunk passenger when he grabbed me by the tie.
He had my ass.
A passenger helped me dislodge him and secure him.
From then on I wore a clip on.

who wears a clip-on tie! If tying a piece of fabric is too complicated, well then ... what about all those gadgets on the plane's dashboard?????

It was a lovely classic two-button design and the tailor made two pairs of slacks. Although I replaced the shirt and vest, I wore that suit for nearly 30 years!
