Sorry, contractor, you are now dead to me...

If *I* call you and *I* set up an appointment with you and *I* meet with you and *I* ask follow up questions about your quote, DON'T send an email addressed to my husband at *MY* email address and expect that you will ever hear from me again. The 50's have been over for a long time!

1. I hear you!

Although my husband got his degree in Mechanical Engineering, I'm the one that wields the screw driver in our family. And I have been the one that has arranged for and managed all of the home improvement projects we have ever done.

Sorry, contractor, you are definitely dead....

4. Truth is...

there are times when my husband certainly should be the one dealing with a contractor because he may have more knowledge about it. But I am the extrovert/people person and the one who does not mind taking on the headaches such as any household project.

I pay the bills too, dammit!

7. Pay the bills, do the taxes,

Grocery shop, cook, clean, laundry.

He helps more now that he's retired though...

3. That's awful!

Like the time my husband and I went to look at a new car and the salesman only talked to my husband and pretty much ignored my existence except to ask me what color I liked.

6. My husband hates that whole process...

I even bought his last car for him. He test drove it and then we used the excuse that he had to watch the kids wile I negotiated with the sales people.

I took my teen son car shopping when we bought his used car and taught him all about the process, playing the long game, etc.

The sales people hate me because I arm myself with knowledge first.

13. Grrrrrrrrrr

I hate that. Car sale LOST when they talk around me, the only one with the driver's license and the one who knows more about cars than my husband ever will.

Now if only I could get the service department to stop putting everything in my husband's name when i come in to get shit done to the car. I'm the one who knows when the gear shifting seems sluggish, or how that whip feeling in the rear end means my traction system is off, or when that smell of gas inside the car means I have a fuel pressure problem. Just because he's the breadwinner doesn't mean I'm not the customer. Sheesh.

8. When I was in college a woman ran into me in the Burger King parking lot

She was semi hysterical and trying to blame me for getting hit; I was stationary and she pulled into the space next to me and clipped me. Really it was only a scratch and I would have just dropped it but she kept haranguing me and at one point asked me “is someone responsible for you?” I was pissed and asked her if someone was responsible for her and she proudly said “my husband”. I didn’t know what to say, I’d never run into anyone like that before.

10. I would have said

Then if you aren't responsible for yourself like a mature adult, then what the hell are you doing out of the house without your minder?

9. Good grief. They just don't get it.

Like when the American Legion trolled the new house titles records and saw that we used a VA loan to buy our house.

They sent the junk mail offering membership...

To my husband, who has never served.

I sent them a nasty reply informing them that I didn't do business with people who made the stupid sexist assumption that the VA loan came through a man. And besides, I wouldn't have joined them, even if they'd not been so damned stupid. After all, I knew what those fuckers were doing for J Edgar Hoover back in the day with the spying on liberals and brown people. Die in a fire, you fucking traitors.

15. Many places don't...

had a rough time with my credit union and they never could explain their "new" policy which apparently took place at the exact time I asked about a refi on our mortgage.

16. "I'm the one who does the repairs and handiwork around the house. My husband doesn't know how

to do these things."

I work i a hardware store, and I'm accustomed to women coming in for tools, projects, and repairs. They don't get treated like the "little woman along for the ride."

They often finish the statement with, "He has other talents, but handiwork isn't one of them."

There are times when I have to politely acknowledge the husband and bring him into the process.

17. I love hardware stores!

Not really sure why they are so appealing to me but I love them. I am not handy at all when it comes to repair or paint or anything car related. Clumsy at it. But I might attempt it anyway. I got a mouse sander because I liked it and ended up using it and it was easier than sandpaper, lol.

I love infomercials for tools and I always want to buy them even if it's something for the yard (which I can't stand).

After libraries and bookstores, hardware stores are my favorite places to browse.

18. Damn straight.

Some of these guys don’t seem to understand who runs the house and who writes the checks. I have had contractors that I have sought out, made appointments with show up and want to know if my husband will be the point person for the job. Really? You’re looking at your point person buddy.

19. All the time

Was moved to a new state, looking to buy a new home. Had my elderly uncle with me (couldn't leave him to fend for himself). Male realtor, addressed all his comments to my uncle. I waited til we were leaving, and then said "by the way, I am the purchaser. I have the money. You will not be getting a bid." My uncle walked away laughing.
