Tom Brokaw Said What ?!?

I must admit, I have not watched Meet The Press in a long time. However, I must have really missed an interesting episode. Tom Brokaw said that Latinos need to "assimilate"!?!

I'm not sure of Tom was trying to express the concerns of white people (not all, please don't come for me) as he sees them or just himself. Good on Yamiche Alcindor for checking Mr. Brokaw at the end of the segment.

Oh my goodness! So much to unpack.

Are the masses upset because he brought "dinner talk" to the national table? Or, is it something else?

The masses apparently disagree that Latinos need to do a better job of assimilation. I disagree with Brokaw in this, too. The ones that have been here a long time are assimilating and adjusting to, and not conflicting with, American culture. A lot of them do learn English, and ALL their kids do, so any isolation based on language won’t last more than one generation. I see the Latino immigration experience today as the same as the Italians did 100 years ago, the Polish 120 years ago, or the Germans 140 years ago, or the Irish 160 years ago.

piece than it is broken down, truly an abysmal spiel. There's no backing off, he meant every single word and I will not be watching him or buying his books anymore.

He seemed sharp and fully ready to expound upon his points. It seems, to me, like a case of "when bothsiderism goes wrong". It's as if he was trying to make the case that it's wrong for white folks to want to hold onto their status as the country's majority culture and it's also wrong for immigrants to "not be more white"? WTH, Tom? IDK, Cattledog.
