But, I would miss certain folks. Sometimes I take a mini break and stop posting. It helps.

very trying. I have in the past trashed the forum and avoided it. Now I post there very infrequently and spend more time in the Lounge and other areas such as photography.

Give that a try.

The Apologists are goading people in the hopes of scoring "hides". These days I refuse to engage, or just tell them to go polish their badges, but they've succeeded in their tactic occasionally.

Try to ignore them, rbrnmw. Your input is important, and we can't let them bully us.

They don't belong here, you do!

The cop killing is tragic but it rapidly turned political and another way to marginalize the life and death issues of black Americans.
I'm going to stick to groups I enjoy until the next outrage.

To stop this movement but we have had enough millions of us have had enough. The Protests won't stop the die-ins won't stop we are through with watching black folks being killed about everyday by cops in America. I have had enough We aren't going to stop until we get justice.

This incident isn't really any different.

I have seen "valued" posters here barge into threads that are CLEARLY about racism and try to change the subject without a trace of shame or awareness, though thankfully, they've been getting their asses handed to them alot more recently.

But the environment here is poisonous and has been for a long time. I think many posters of color have had it with this place.

the recent ass-handing is, somewhat, encouraging.

I no longer feel as if I shouting in the wilderness ... Now, I'm just shouting in DU's patch of dense woods; people are hearing the noise and taking some time to figure out what the cry is, and from where.

I hear you. I think a lot of others here do as well. I think there are a lot of good-hearted people here. And people willing to listen. The trolls & racists & polite racists, frankly I don't have much time for them. There's too many good people here at DU with whom I can converse.

Now for my burning question. What was the recent ass-handing? I miss so much stuff here!

"accidental"/"polite", though self proclaiming non-racists (and his fan base) attempted re-write history by denying he wrote something ... and kept it up even though several PoC posted links to what he said AND his apology (as racially insensitive) for writing it ... It got so pitiful that even his fan base stopped fanning him and others took note (apparently for the first time) of his pattern and history (despite, them having been pointed out regularly by PoC).

That, and in the same time frame, a couple not so "accidental"/"polite", though self proclaiming non-racists (with years of membership and relatively high post counts) were shown the door. Again, DUers took note (apparently for the first time) of their patterns; despite, them having been pointed out regularly by PoC.

also. i guess certain types are feeling more welcome as others feel less so.

it is something that certain types who are always dismissing concerns of minorities and think they are being too sensitive and insist something is not bigoted are those most offended and outraged and demand people use "some" , "not all" when discussing things.

the last one i saw was about al franken disagreeing with an appointment of obama's. and people brought up things like some pics of obama that others posted or ridiculed the racism against the president as if any of those things have to do with this specific issue. as if one can't disagree on certain things. yes, nobody is calling ranken a racist because nobody has a problem with disagreeing with the president. as if franken was making chicken and watermelon jokes .

Though some members of the right do engage in 'soft racism', it is more the hallmark of the center and the left.

yes, nobody is calling ranken a racist because nobody has a problem with disagreeing with the president. as if franken was making chicken and watermelon jokes .

It is the literal pre-emptive strike. They can refer back to threads like that and say "see?! SEE?! Disagree with Obama and you will be a racist! SEE?!?!" It is a craftier, more literate way, of accusing someone of playing the "race card" without saying, therefore leaving 'plausible deniability.'
